Default Makefile missing from NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8756-pkg0?

All of the other pkg0.run's included a Makefile in the extracted directory, but it seems to be missing from NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8756-pkg0.run. Has something changed?

The Makefile is no longer supported. Additionally, NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8756-pkg0.run is not a supported package. x86 users should be using the pkg1 package. The driver should be installed per the instructions in the README.

Can you elaborate on why you wish to use the Makefile and/or pkg0 ?

Thanks,
Lonni

I'd like to be elaborated as to why you need all that precompiled glue for every stock kernel known to man......

Some people prefer not to have a development environment setup, and would rather just have the nvidia kernel module ship in the package. No one is forced to use the precompiled kernel module if they'd rather build their own.

Thanks,
Lonni

IIRC, the only difference between the 1+ and 0 packages were the precompiled kernel modules and since I never needed them, it made sense to go with 0. I've always built and installed the two components separately.

Guess I'll try to make due with --no-kernel-module and --kernel-module-only, but this is going to make patching a bit awkward as you'll have to deviate from what has become typical to extracting and manually compiling.

In place upgrades won't be easy with this, will they? I imagine the installer tries to unload the module and abort the installation process it if can't. Do you guys just wait and do the kernel module on the next boot?
