Hi all,
I have two 6800 GT GPU, on a asus P5ND2-SLI Deluxe mobo. Each GPU work fine, alone. But when I want to use them in SLI mode, I can't get it working. XFree86 (4.3.0) complains : (**) NVIDIA(0): Option "SLI" "auto" (**) NVIDIA(0): Enabling RENDER acceleration (**) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA SLI enabled; using auto-selected rendering method. (WW) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize SLI! Reason: GPUs do not match. Only (WW) NVIDIA(0): one GPU will be used for this X screen. Please see the SLI (WW) NVIDIA(0): Appendix in the README for troubleshooting suggestions (II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA GPU GeForce 6800 GT at PCI:1:0:0 (--) NVIDIA(0): VideoRAM: 262144 kBytes (--) NVIDIA(0): VideoBIOS: 05.40.02.26.00 (II) NVIDIA(0): Detected PCI Express Link width: 8X (--) NVIDIA(0): Interlaced video modes are supported on this GPU (--) NVIDIA(0): Connected display device(s) on GeForce 6800 GT at PCI:1:0:0: I read README but it did not help me. What's wrong ? Thanks in advance.

Here's the reason for the failure:
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize SLI! Reason: GPUs do not match. Are you certain that both videocards are identical? Please generate and post an nvidia-bug-report.log along with the output from 'lspci' Thanks, Lonni |

Those GPUs aren't the same. Note the "(rev a2)" on the end of the first one. Did you purchase both cards at the same place and time?
Thanks, Lonni |

The two cards have a different VBIOS, which also makes them dissimilar. Are they both Asus cards? If so, you need to have Asus either provide a VBIOS update to get them both to the same version, or replace one of the cards so that they are both using the same version.
Thanks, Lonni |

Ok, but where can I download it ? I typed "vbios" on asus website search engine : 0 result :-( On google, most pages are russian pages. > or replace one of the cards so that they are both using the same version. I just bought the second GPU today. And N6800GT are quite difficult to find now. Anyway, retailer could not tell me the vbios rev if I asked him... Thanks.

walrus, Asus would need to provide the VBIOS. As chunkey suggested, you need to contact Asus to address this problem.
Thanks, Lonni |

Ok, thanks to you, I can get it working. I've downloaded bios from mvktech.net and now, SLI works : (**) NVIDIA(0): Option "SLI" "auto" (**) NVIDIA(0): Enabling RENDER acceleration (**) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA SLI enabled; using auto-selected rendering method. (II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA GPU GeForce 6800 GT at PCI:1:0:0 (--) NVIDIA(0): VideoRAM: 262144 kBytes (--) NVIDIA(0): VideoBIOS: 05.40.02.26.00 (II) NVIDIA(0): Detected PCI Express Link width: 8X (--) NVIDIA(0): Interlaced video modes are supported on this GPU (--) NVIDIA(0): Connected display device(s) on GeForce 6800 GT at PCI:1:0:0: (--) NVIDIA(0): Iiyama PLE480/481 (DFP-0) But... marsu[pts/0]:~/{6}/> nvidia-settings The program 'nvidia-settings' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'. (Details: serial 45 error_code 2 request_code 147 minor_code 3) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) What 's wrong ? Thanks in advance.
