Actually, can you post the log after running the installer with only the -s switch?

Thanks,
Lonni

Just tried Vanilla kernel 2.6.16.1. Wanna take a guess?

Also tried with -ns "no precompiled interface = true" of course, it's the same. This is also a big problem. The installer never runs, I, or emerge, always have to manually make the kernel module

I doubt that this problem has anything to do with the kernel you're using. I think something in your toolchain is broken, or you've got something that is non-standard in your environment.

Have you tried stracing the installer, to see what its doing when it appears hung?

Hi,

could you post your kernel config?

Here's my .config for Vanilla kernel 2.6.16.1 (that's the normal, unpatched kernel for those unfamilar with gentoo's naming schemes). All the other kernels are pretty much the same config.

Hi,

is there any reason you set smp, numa, and some of the mem stuff?

Could you please try this config?

is your /usr/src/linux softlink aimed at the right kernel...

energyman76b + xorbe,

Please read through my previous posts. I always set my symbolic link before compiling the kernel and before compiling the nvidia kernel module. Energyman76b, Thanks for the config, but I won't be using it. As you can see, I need things like advanced routing, QoS, etc. I don't need smp, but if you read my previous posts, that's the one thing in my configs that I had changed, and hoped that changing it back would help. I quite capable at creating kernel configs of what I need, and only what I need, and no one here has generated any evidence that any of these kernel options or modules should create any undesired results. More importantly, and this is something that no one here wants to address, I might add; no one has stated anything about the conftest.sh and it's link in this mess. The problem is rather easily identified as having to do with this script, and the fact that the unknown symbols pci_find_class and remap_page_range pop up has everything to do with this, and nothing to do with my linux kernel config. I'm getting rather agitated with those who want to help but keep asking me for the f$%&ing installer log. When I say that the installer hangs after the licence agreement, with any set of options -nsK --GUI=none, etc, guess what? I mean it! This driver is the ONLY thing on my system that doesn't work. And, lo and behold, it's also the only driver that I paid hard earned money towards. Why is it that the nv driver works perfectly as soon as I load it as a module? Why is it the same for the nvidiafb driver? And don't go there, I don't load either module when trying to get the nvidia driver up and running.
My point is, I've been telling you guys at nvidia which direction to be looking at, and I've checked, rechecked, and triple rechecked all the little BS about installer parameters, /usr/src/linux softlinks, MD5 Checksum on the .run package, etc ad infintium. I've tried multiple kernels, multiple nvidia module versions, etc. NOTHING WORKS. At this point, I'd be glad to return my 6600GT for a full refund and go buy a video card that HAS fully open source drivers. My last point, don't help if you're gonna ask the same questions over and over again; it may very well be that I'm missing something small in my system's configuration, but it's NOT:

Linux Kernel configuration
the nvidia installer
my /usr/src/linux symlink
anything else previously posted in this thread. ->It's called regression testing

Hi,

first:

>I've already traced the problem back to this, so I'm not gonna post install logs, and etc., besides, I use Gentoo portage to manage this install. In short, the installer issues a warning about remap_page_range as an unknown symbol in Kernel 2.6.16 on x86_64 arch. The module builds/installs, but modprobe craps out when trying to load it. Patch please!

that has nothing to do with 'installer hangs'

second:

why using the installer? use the ebuilds

third:

even if you nned QoS at all, could you please just TRY a kernel config that is known to work - ie mine - and is not full of strange settings - like yours?

I dont claim to know anything about your problems or how to fix them, but you might try looking at why its calling pci_find_class and remap_page_range, both of which are now deprecated. I think pci_find_class is now pci_get_class and remap_page_range is remap_pfn_range. This could explain the unknown symbol errors.
