everytime we configure a dualhead machine we have to have a different xorg.conf. today we installed 2 machines. exactly identical hardware and the
1.0-8756 IA32 drivers

box 1 xorg

this config works with 2 Dell 2001FP (1-vga / 1-dvi)

the same config does not work on box 2. i get nothing on the DVI (screen1) and a shifted desktop on screen0. xwininfo reports 1600x1200

after some tweaking on box2, i now have a 2880x1200 desktop using this xorg.conf

In your X log, I see:
(--) NVIDIA(0): Dell 2001FP (DFP-0): Internal Single Link TMDS

You need a videocard with a dual link TMDS connector for 1600x1200 on a DFP.

Thanks,
Lonni

i guess i am confused. i have 2 other machines (not including box1 in this thread) running this same card with dual-head 2001FP's. what is different about these setups. again, each of these machines has a different xorg.conf

I'd need to see a bug report to comment on the behavior of any other systems.

Thanks,

ok, but those systems are working (somehow) doing spanning desktops at 3200x1200. other than the xorg.conf, they are running the 1.0-7174 version of the driver.

here is a bug-report from 1 of them

In this bug report, you're running in analog mode (with a CRT). Only digital mode has the pixelclock restriction I mentioned earlier. Also, there was a bug in 1.0-7xxx drivers where the true maximum pixelclock was misreported.

I'll need to see a bug report(s) against 1.0-8756 where you're able to run at 1600x1200 or higher on the DFP in order to comment further on how that would be possible.

Thanks,
Lonni

I am successfully running 2 Samsung 244t with TwinView at 1920x1200 for a total of 2400x1920 (running rotated) using the 8178 driver.

My xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log are attached.

With the new 8756 driver, this does not work and only my monitor with the VGA cable comes up correctly. If I set UseEIDE to false, I get spanning but at very low resolutions.

Please let me know if there is any more info I can give to get these TwinView problems solved in the new driver.

the last bug report is a FX5200 with 1 2001FP connected VGA and 1 2001FP connected DVI. and it is running spanning desktops @ 3200x1200

the first bug report machine i cannot get the DVI display to 1600x1200. i guess my only resolve is to try the older drivers.

Please start X with the following command:
startx -- -logverbose 5

and then generate and post an nvidia-bug-report.log that captures the problem.

Thanks,
Lonni

I am using two 2001FP's successfully with my GeForce FX 5200. Here's a snippet from my log:

(II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA GPU GeForce FX 5200 at PCI:1:0:0
(--) NVIDIA(0): VideoRAM: 131072 kBytes
(--) NVIDIA(0): VideoBIOS: 04.34.20.22.bf
(II) NVIDIA(0): Detected AGP rate: 8X
(--) NVIDIA(0): Interlaced video modes are supported on this GPU
(--) NVIDIA(0): Connected display device(s) on GeForce FX 5200 at PCI:1:0:0:
(--) NVIDIA(0): Dell 2001FP (CRT-0)
(--) NVIDIA(0): Dell 2001FP (DFP-0)
(--) NVIDIA(0): Dell 2001FP (CRT-0): 350 MHz maximum pixel clock
(--) NVIDIA(0): Dell 2001FP (DFP-0): 135 MHz maximum pixel clock
(--) NVIDIA(0): Dell 2001FP (DFP-0): Internal Single Link TMDS
(II) NVIDIA(0): Assigned Display Devices: CRT-0, DFP-0

Strangely, I have a maximum pixel clock of 135 MHz, while five0_4tluv only has 108 MHz, which accounts for the problem. Could this be a video BIOS problem? What else would cause this?

here is a current bug-report from "box2" in my first post. again, the chipset on this card is an FX5200 with seperate DVI, VGA and Composite outputs. i have 1 more card in my stash that i can see if i get different results with to see if it is a BIOS thing..

thanks for the help.
