Default Native resolution works with NVIDIA 5500 but not NVIDIA 6600

I was able to set up my myth boxes to both use the native resoultion of my tvs through dvi : 1360x768 : using an nvidia 5500 cards.

I upgraded my mythtv box to an nvidia 6600GT dual dvi i had laying around figuring i would get better quality. Now the same modeline does not work that worked.

my old system was using the 6629 drivers which i could not successfully downgrade to on my new R5B7 system. So i moved to the latest 8756 drivers. Using the 5500 on the latest drivers worked using my modeline. on the 6600 it would show up on the tv as 1600x1200 scaled by the tv to 1360x768 . the TV is a polaroid LCD with DVI.

I went about trying my old working modeline, any others for that resolution i could find and then tried powerstrip on my laptop for the tv just to get the same modeline that i tried first.

so i figured the 6600gt wouldnt work, maybe because there were differences in the series of the chips. I was able to get a 5900 from my friend that i would trade for the 6600 on the condition that it worked.

Well the 5900 is having the same problems as the 6600 and i am now wondering what is actually causing it.

i have 2 tvs and only one nVidia 5500 card and 2 non working 6600gt cards and a 5900ultra card.

Would i notice a quality jump if i can upgrade to a newer card for my hd programs?

What may be causing a modeline to work on one card and not another using the same drivers/xfconfig file/monitor.
