Default 1.0-8756 on SOHO 5.1 RC2 / FX5200 -fixed

Well like a lot of people in this forum I too had probelms with the new drivers.

Black screen - system lockups after initial Startx
After researching at length on this and other forums - my solution was to reset the AGP aperature size back down to 64mb from 128mb in my mobo's bios. Then once my xorg.conf file had all the required edits: eg.. commenting load dri - all was good and X and glx was back.

I hope this helps someone like me who tried everything with the diriver only to find it was a motherboard bios setting that was the problem.

Config:
1.7 Celeron 512mb FX5200 Vectorlinux Soho 5.1 Rc2 (Slack kernel 2.6.15.3)

Driver:
1.0-8756 Apirl 7 2006 - Compiled from source via the Nvidia Sh script and manual edit of xorg.conf
