Default [ nvidia 8756 / Xorg 7.0 ] Unable to run OpenGL application ...

Hello,

I'm riding on a debian testing/unstable. After updating xorg to version 7.0, i have installed Nvidia driver 8756 (with correct module path). All seems to work fine. But, when i try to launch an OpenGL applications, glxgears for example or whatever, X reboot. My first idea was to think about Composite desktop ... but with or without X composite, X reboot.

Does anybody one have tried to run an OpenGL app with this configuration ? I can't initialize an OpenGL context with lastest driver

Thanks

ps : my graphic card is a GeForce 6800 GT AGP

Specifically which OpenGL applications are you running?

Please generate and post an nvidia-bug-report.log.

Thanks,
Lonni

Thanks for answer

All OpenGL Applications ! For instance glxgears ... or my applications !

I have done the ldd to see if OpenGL applications are linked with right librairies and it is done !

I have seen in my application when it crash : it was on the initialization of an OpenGL Context. I think it is the same for other applications as the bug seems to be at the same time.

I will post a nvidia-bug-report ...

Additionally, please post the output from glxinfo.

Thanks,

Ok ... so ... i can't run glxinfo with 8756 ! And, i can't start X with "startx" ... only with kdm or X. Does it good for nvidia-bug-report ?

I have re-installed previous version : 8178 with appropriate patch for kernel 2.6.16-* ! All works fine ...

I have read additionnal features of the lastest driver and i think that no patch is needed ... isn't it ?

Thanks ...

I'm not clear on what you meant when you stated that you can't run glxinfo. Regardless, I'll need to see a bug report against 1.0-8756 before I can provide any comments or suggestions on this problem.

Thanks,
Lonni

Hello,

I have found the bug ...

During re-installation of the 8756 driver, i have an error on libglx symobolic link. In fact, my libglx was not a symbolic link due to ???? i don't know ... mesa (debian package) and nvidia (compiled) glx library cohabitation ?

So, debian users, take care about that ! Now, by defining libglx as the right symbolic link, it works fine

Thanks Lonni for your help

I just had the same problem on Fedora Core 5 after an xorg update.
X would reboot if I tried to launch ANY 3D accelerated app and the whole computer would freeze if I tried to see the GLX info at the nvidia-settings panel.

The solution for me was to reinstall the Nvidia drivers. I was warned that libglx.so was not a symbolic link (probably an Xorg 7 "feature"), but the installer corrected this.

I think this is definitely an incompatibility between Xorg and the nvidia drivers, so no real "bugs" are involved.
