Default blank screen until X starts?

Hi there,

Does anyone else have the problem where you get *no* video on your monitor until X starts? (So you can use Linux or whatever fine, but you can't go into your BIOS, you don't see Linux first booting up etc.)

If so, can you post what video card and driver version you're using?

Just wanna know which cards to avoid when buying in the future.

Default Re: blank screen until X starts?

This should not happen with any videocard on any modern monitor.

I had this problem when I used a fixed-frequency monitor from a workstation. It cannot handle the textmode frequency which is chosen for compatability with old VGA monitors. But all normal "multisync" monitors should display that fine.
