Default Re: nVidia8756 driver install problem

there are no exes in linux.

because file endings are for apps and OS that are to stupid to do the right thing.

The nvidia-bug-report.sh ends on sh

And it is part of the installer - if you did install the driver correctly, you should be able to just type nvidia-bug-report.sh as root and everything works.

If you did not install this part successfully do this:
sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8756-pkg0.run --extract-only go into the created dirs, located it, run it.

akoh, the naming scheme that you're using for some of your modes is incorrect (unless you wish to create custom modelines with the same naming scheme).

You need to replace * with x in all of the following modes in your xorg.conf:
"1024*768_85" "1024*768_85" "1024*768"

Beyond that, I'm not really clear on the refresh rate you're attempting to use.

Thanks,
Lonni

hi !

@Energyman :

This entry appears after i've done this :

Quote:
# nvidia-xconfig --mode 1024x768_85
as I have been suggested above, I mean, keeping in mind that i type an * instead of an x between 1024 and 768

@Lonie :

You were right, i replaced all the * by x's and everything alright now
Little mistake, big consequences

My problem is resolved.

Thank you all for your patience and the good answers.

A bientôt

don-dario:

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

I have been searching various forums for days and your post is the one that solved my problems. I was having the devil of a time getting my GeForce 7600 GS card running with Ubuntu 5.10 Breezy Badger on my system (ASUS A8N-SLI Premium mobo, AMD64 3700, 2GB RAM, 2 SATA drives). You method worked perfectly. I threw in a few extra lines of code that I thought might be important and I mention them here on the offchance that some other noob like me finds them useful.

As this was a fresh install, I installed:
sudo apt-get install binutils
sudo apt-get install make
sudo apt-get upgrade

These are probably obvious to most of you.

My faith in Linux was shaken there for a day or two as I failed time after time to get those NVIDIA drivers installed right, but I am back on track now.

don_dario: you ROCK!

Sincerely,
hawth
