Default fedora 5 + 5786 + geforce 6600+ samsung 204b black screen

good day,
I just installed a geforce 6600 with a new samsung monitor after my previous flat panel died. I'm running fedora 5 64 bit. The latest kernel driver had no errors installing and I changed the the screen section to the new monitor parameters. X starts up and I see no errors in the X log but yet the screen goes dark. the log says nv driver is using the digital output. does anyone have
any suggestions, I can post the usual long log file & xorg.conf
thanks in advance

Please start X with the following command:
startx -- -logverbose 5

and then generate and post an nvidia-bug-report.log.

Thanks,
Lonni

ok here is the log, In my original post I forgot to mention that the geforce 6600 was also new. my previous hardware was an sgi 1600w flat panel with a number
9 revolution video card. I've been tweakng the xorg.conf settings but no
real difference.

This looks like a problem:

(--) NVIDIA(0): Samsung SyncMaster (DFP-0): 155 MHz maximum pixel clock
(--) NVIDIA(0): Samsung SyncMaster (DFP-0): Internal Single Link TMDS
(--) NVIDIA(0): Detailed Timings:
(--) NVIDIA(0): 1600 x 1200 @ 60Hz
(--) NVIDIA(0): Pixel Clock : 162.00 MHz
(--) NVIDIA(0): HRes, HSyncStart : 1600, 1664
(--) NVIDIA(0): HSyncEnd, HTotal : 1856, 2160
(--) NVIDIA(0): VRes, VSyncStart : 1200, 1201
(--) NVIDIA(0): VSyncEnd, VTotal : 1204, 1250
(--) NVIDIA(0): H/V Polarity : +/+

The 1600x1200 mode requires a larger maximum pixelclock than your videocard is capable of providing. If you request 1280x1024, does that work?

Thanks,
Lonni

here is the updated report, one thing I noticed scanning through it was it says the detected agp rate is 4x, but I bought an 8x card (according to the box any ways) I didn't see any way to set it through the bios. I don't know if its revelant or not.

Thanks for the new bug report. I have a few questions:
0) What kind of motherboard & BIOS version are you using?
1) Have you tried setting different values for NvAGP in your X configuration?
2) If you boot with the noapic and/or acpi=off kernel parameters, does that have any impact?
3) Does the BIOS let you reduce the size of the AGP aperture from the current 256M to something smaller? If so, please test with 128M or even 64M.
4) Does this problem reproduce if the vmware associated kernel modules are not loaded?

Thanks,
Lonni

I had the same issue with a 6800 Ultra and the same monitor, if I hook it up with a VGA connector. Using DVI is fine though.

Edit: The 6800 Ultra has two DVI ports, so when I use the VGA connector, it's through a DVI to VGA adapter. Also, using VGA with a CRT is fine as well at 1600x1200.

ecs k8t890-a (with agp express) bios 12/29/05 (upgraded to yesterday)

1) Have you tried setting different values for NvAGP in your X configuration?

not yet, I was hoping other pairs of eyes might have seen something I didn't... do you have a favorite set to start with?
2) If you boot with the noapic and/or acpi=off kernel parameters, does that have any impact?
none, although the monitor seems to go to power save after 30 secs...

no.

yes...

thanks

Please set NvAGP to 0 and test again.
