Default Re: Suspend/Hibernate - does it work for you?

Hi,

1. (Suspend method): suspend-to-disk
2. (Worked): Yes
3. (SW-setup): 1.0.8762-1, Suse 10.1, kernel 2.6.16.21-0.13-smp, xorg 6.9.0
4. (HW-setup): Sony Vaio VGN-FE11M, Mainboard Intel 945 PM, Graphics-card: GeForce Go 7400
Exact infos about the hardware at http://vaio.sony-europe.com/view/Vie...hnicalFeatures
(this site is unfortunately in german).

When I suspend to disk I do not get the status informations anymore (I do get the first few messages, but not the ones telling how far the process is). But it works, also the resume.

Best,
Mat

Another Update from me:

Kernel: still 2.6.18-rc4
Nvidia: 8774
XorgConf: No "NvAGP 1" Option
Result: Black screen after reboot, with Monitor going into Standby after some seconds.. (like before)

Will try with "NvAGP 1" and post an update..

1. (Method): Suspend to RAM from Gnome Menu / Close Display
2. (Worked): Yes/No
3. (SW-setup): FC5, 8762 from Livna, same result with 8774 from Livna
4. (HW-setup): Dell Inspiron 9300, nVidia Corporation NV41.8 [GeForce Go 6800] (rev a2), PCI Express

Worked fine with Fedora Core Kernel 2.6.16-1.2133_FC5 (2.6.16 Kernel). Doesn't work (black screen after resume) with any of the kernel versions above (2.6.17). I've tried the latest nvidia driver, same result, but 8774 is not available from livna for 2.6.16-1.2133_FC5. I have a pci express version, nvAGP Option and agp=off kernel parameter makes no difference. Comment out resume_video() / vbetool post in /etc/pm/functions-nvidia doesn't change things too.

Another idea to try?

Have anyone with previous failures tried latest 8774 driver and/or newer kernel/ xorg 7.1? Any better?

hp zd7160us with nVidia Corporation NV34M [GeForce FX Go5200], 2 gig RAM. Ubuntu Edgy updated, 2.6.17-8-generic #2 SMP, 8774.

Suspends, doesn't resume - black screen hang with 100% CPU. Haven't tried hibernate. Many things tried: noacpi, agp=off, NvAGP=1, etc.

Resume has NEVER worked with the nvidia drivers on this machine. suspend and hibernate work fine with NO problems with the nv driver.

So when is Nvidia going to fix this??? Is anyone else as frustrated as I am??? I can't believe that this is such an intractable problem that they can't fix it.

If they can't, they should open the driver so the community can.

My $0.02.

Just tried to boot with pci=nommconfig...
Now it works with loaded nvidia Modul and agpgart
BUT
Not with running X

syslog shows:
NVRM: Xid (0002:00): 8, Channel 00000020

For me this more & more seems like some sort of PCI Bios Bug wich is worked around in the nv Driver with some sort of dirty hack..

Tried with 9.625 Beta Driver..nope
Screen stays black with the stupid Xid Errors..

@zander,thunderbird, whoever:
Would it be possible to build a Version of the driver, with all PM disabled?
Maybe a Module Option or something like that in the Beta Driver..

I think the problem is: my board or AGP Slot or whatever simply refuses to "reinit" the Card on resume.. thats why it stays black.
BUT because I see Grub maybee it doesn't need reinit?

After all i've read the "nv" Driver doesnt do any PM..
And Works!

Default Re: Suspend/Hibernate - does it work for you?

Just tried with a new Centrino Duo laptop (Dell Latitude D820)
2.6.17 (gentoo patched source, if this makes any difference?)
nvidia 1.0.8762

Suspend to RAM:

- Works find with SMP disabled

- Black screen (and no sign of life) with SMP enabled.

Can suspend to RAM work with SMP? Anyone got some experience with this?

Suspend to disk : not tried.

I previously have been using a DELL Inspiron 5150 with weeks of "uptime" using suspend to RAM daily (this was not an SMP machine).

Default Re: Suspend/Hibernate - does it work for you?

Just found out something interesing:
I patched nvidi-agp.c not do HardCode the PowerLeven but use PCI_D0 und PCI_D3hot like I've seen the intel driver does..

Trying with Xorg 7.1 and Nvidia 9.626 showed a new symptome:
Now I can suspend and resume with running X if I switched to a tty5 and do
echo "disk" > /sys/power/state

Even with loaded nvidia Module and running XServer!!

Unfortunetly my lucks stops if I try to change to tty12 (my Xconsole)
Xid Error..

Also I noticed Xid Errors are alternating with Errors from my rt2500 Card telling me it's MLME Buffer is full!?

kernel: NVRM: Xid (0002:00): 8, Channel 00000020
kernel: rt2500MlmeEnqueue full, msg dropped and may corrupt MLME

and so on..

Could this be some sort of Xorg triggered IRQ Conflct? How could I check?

Thumbs up Re: Suspend/Hibernate - does it work for you?

YES!!! It finaly woks!!
Using the 97series Beta Driver I finaly was able to suspend while in X!
I even have full AGP Support through agpgart..

So I guess it was not Kernel Developers fault or Xorg-Devs
But in the end: I'm happy

Even suspend-to-mem work.. for some seconds.. then System freezes.. but this can be anything, doesn't have to do anything with nvidia.. next Target
