A reminder: comment out these in your X conf,
Code:
    Option "UseEdidFreqs" "FALSE"
    Option "UseEDID" "FALSE"
    Option "ModeValidation" "NoEdidModes"

Let the drivers detect permisable refresh rates by commenting out the below thus,

Code:
# HorizSync 31.0 - 81.0
# VertRefresh 56.0 - 75.0
# Option "DPMS"
# Modeline "1280x1024_60" 135.00 1280 1296 1440 1688 1024 1025 1028 1066 +hsync +vsync
(# is put at the very start of the line)

What refresh rate are you aiming for? You can't do any more than the hardware will let you. I would be doing 1280x1024 but my monitor doesn't do that at 85Hz. So I fall back to 1024x768, this from my xorg.conf:

Code:
        Modes "1024x768_85" "800x600_85" "640x480_85"

Change the 24 bit depth line in Section "Screen":
Code:
Modes "1280x1024_75" "1024x768_75" "800x600_75" "640x480_75"
And you don't have to run any script.

Look at your X log to see why the mode fails, then lower the refresh a bit and retry.

Code:
(II) LoadModule: "glx"
(WW) Warning, couldn't open module glx
(II) UnloadModule: "glx"
(EE) Failed to load module "glx" (module does not exist, 0)
...
(II) LoadModule: "nv"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nv_drv.so
...
(II) NV(0): 1280x1024@75Hz
Btw, you are using the "nv" driver and not "nvidia". The nv driver may ignore "1280x1024_80" etc. Your card can do the above @ 75Hz, if "nv" can't do it try "vesa".
