Crash locks up my entire system, requiring hard reboot (soft reboot no response). I have rebuilt all of xorg (7.0.0) from scratch, and checked dependencies with revdep-rebuild. Nvidia modules LOADS fine from command line modprobe. No errors reported in kernel log, but starting X kills my whole system. Dowgraded to previous version everything is kosher!!!

All that I see crashing in your bug report is X.
Have you verified that you have the latest BIOS for your motherboard? Does this reproduce without the vmware related kernel modules loaded? Does this reproduce with a kernel.org kernel? Thanks, Lonni |

I am sorry -- I attached my xorg log file instead of the nvidia output.
Attached is my nvidia log file. I have tried disabling vmware to no effect (same crash occurs). I have not yet tried the vanilla kernel, I will give that a shot and let you know what happens. I have also found some file corruption, which is strange as I am using a RAID 5 array that should be somewhat self-healing. I am not sure if it is a cause or effect of the numerous crashes during my attempts to diagnose but i may have to kill my root and start from scratch rebuilding everything in order to know what is causing this. I will update you here later, but if you see anything in the log file worth noting please let me know. |

You attached a bug report originally, however what I was saying was that the only thing I saw wrong was that X was crashing.

Hi,
try a vanilla kernel and do NOT load the vmware modules. Not only 'deactivate' it, make sure, that they are not loaded. could you please also post your xorg-version? btw - when I played around with S3 I had to hit reset several times - since then I have >700 defect blocks and the harddisk wants to be replaced. Reset can do a lot of harm.... |
