Default PPC/Linux: Can nVidia drivers be compiled from source?

Can nVidia drivers be compiled from source? What ATI cards are supported on this platform? Maybe I should just switch to ATI

No, they can't. The opensource ATi driver supports up to R200 I believe.

As mentioned dozens of times before there are no nvidia drivers for ppc. The same is true for ati but the difference is that there are opensource drivers for 'older' boards. (there are reverse engineered drivers which support modern boards too but those aren't that great yet)

So if I had to get a new card to use on a PPC to get xgl + compiz to work, would you guys suggest anything in particular?? For now I use the OSS "nv" driver which "works" and is quiet stable, but of course has no acceleration and does not work with xgl.
