Hello, I'm now quite used to install nVidia drivers (between 10 and 30 computers a year only with nVidia graphics due to its support for linux).
Usualy it's working fine, but this time I was not able to make it work. I first tried with kernel 2.6.12, then 2.6.14 and finally 2.6.16... kernel 12 and 14: compilation and installation OK, but system very unstable (locking, crash, etc.) kernel 16 doesn't compile at all. (see joined log) Hardware: - nVidia Geforce 6150 integrated into an ASUS A8N-VM-CMS motherboard - x86_64 architecture (AMD 3000+ s939) According to change log of driver 8174, the 6150 should be supported... Thanks to take a look! Francois Gerin, Belgium |

Have you applied the cumulative driver patch?

Thank you, I didn't see that. (Not easy to find the way in all those posts...)
Well, I applied the first patch only (because when I attempted to do the others, it failed at patching). Now the compilation seems to work fine, but I block again at the same step than with kernels 2.6.12 and 2.6.14. I'm using KDE 3.5 (and 3.4 with kernel 2.6.12). On startup I see the nVidia logo screen, then I get the blue background of X server startup, and then (after an abnormaly long period) I see KDE starting, but it is blocking at services initialization. Then everything (but the mouse) is blocked, I even cannot switch to a console because keyboard is not answering. I don't think it's KDE because it was working fine before nvidia driver installation... (and the problem is the same with 3.4 and 3.5) Thank you for your help... F. PS: I don't know which log I could look at... it must stay after a reboot since I cannot use the keyboard once the problem occurs. |

Please apply the cumulative patch to 1.0-8178, and if the problem persists, post an nvidia-bug-report.log.
Thanks, Lonni |

Sorry but I've got too many problems trying to cumulate diff files... not able to make them work together; I cannot lose more time to this.
If there is a repository (CVS, SVN or other) including working sources and corrections I still can try, but I won't try anymore with those patches. Thanks for help anyway... F. |

@fgerin: the NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-8178-U012206.diff.txt (cumulative) patch available from the URL posted above includes all the relevant changes; if 1.0-8178 still doesn't build after updating it with this patch, please attach the /var/log/nvidia-installer.log file.

If this one is already a cumulative one, then the problem exists since it was the first I tried.
Tonight I'll try to give you the log, but I don't have the computer anymore, I'll do it on mine which is quite similar. F. |
