Unable to get TV-out working with 8756 on a Toshiba 5105-s607 Fedora Core 4 system with a 440Go.

Your X configuration isn't setup correctly for two display devices (this is not specific to TV-Out). Each of your Device sections needs a BusID entry with the PCI bus ID of your videocard (in your case 1:0:0).
Thanks, Lonni |

Lonnie- I ran a couple of dozen permutations to try to determine if any of them would even produce an image, and posted a representative report rather than all of them (if it would help, I can rerun any variations you'd like). I did run with the busids in the device sections (as that's my configuration for 7676), but even with them there is no signal at the TV-out.
In the short term, I need the TV-out functionality, so I've gone back to 7676 with the unofficial patch for the 2.6.16 kernel (which works). The machine will be available for testing again in about two weeks following a hard drive and FC5 upgrade. If you provide a list of parameter variations you'd like bug reports for, I'll provide them. Thanks |

After the upgrade to FC5, I was still unable to get TV-out working with the 8756 driver.
I went back to the 7676 driver in FC5, and everything's working again, including TV-out. In fact, it's actually somewhat better than in FC4, because I can now turn off the backlight in two-head mode (which didn't work in FC4), so I don't have to switch back and forth from single head to two-head. Because my machine runs 7x24, the ability to turn off the backlight is important to me. I honestly can not suggest that people use the 7676 driver in FC5, only because the process to get it to work is rather convoluted and error prone. It does however prove that the 7676 driver is viable for current distributions if people want to go through the pain. |
