Hi there, I have an FX5200 AGP card on a new ASUS P4S800-MX/SE motherboard running Linux 2.6.16.5 and the NVIDIA driver 1.0-8756. Sometimes when the system is first started and I try and start X I get a system freeze - no NVidia logo appears, and I have to press RESET to get the system back. After that it doesn't happen again until the system is switched off.
I see one or more "(WW) NVIDIA(0): WAIT" lines in the Xorg.0.log file (attached) that seem to relate to this problem. This was using the vanilla X-Server with a resolution of 800x600 and kickstarting with "startx". Since then I have installed KDE and have added support for resolutions 1280x1024 and 1024x768 and starting the X-Server using kdm and I haven't had the problem since. However I also want to be able to start the server in "800x600" using "startx" as the machine will be a dedicated arcade cabinet, running in a low-resolution and without the overhead of KDE. Can anyone give me an idea what is going wrong here? Thanks in advance, Andy |

Update: as well as installing and using KDE and not having these problems since, I also added some Options to the videocard section - one being NvAgp 1. I guess this is the real culprit? (looks sheepish).
