Default modprobe nvnet fails

hi. i want to make my box a masq/nat box, thus i need my second nic (the nforce one)

my setup:
asus a7n8x deluxe
amd 2400+ 2ghz
256 mb 2700 corsair
old elsa gladiac that uses nvidia-linux-x86 drivers

so i compiled it by hand:
# make
cc -c -Wall -DLINUX -DMODULE -DEXPORT_SYMTAB -D__KERNEL__ -O -Wstrict-prototypes -DCONFIG_PM -fno-strict-aliasing -mpreferred-stack-boundary=2 -march=i686 -falign-functions=4 -DMODULE -I/lib/modules/2.4.23/build/include -DMODVERSIONS -include /lib/modules/2.4.23/build/include/linux/modversions.h nvnet.c
ld -r -o temp.o nvnet.o nvnetlib.o
objcopy --strip-symbol="gcc2_compiled." temp.o
cp temp.o nvnet.o
rm temp.o

and installed it:
# make install
mkdir -p //lib/modules/2.4.23/kernel/drivers/net
install -b -m 644 nvnet.o //lib/modules/2.4.23/kernel/drivers/net

but

# modprobe nvnet

produces

Warning: loading /lib/modules/2.4.23/kernel/drivers/net/nvnet.o will taint the kernel: non-GPL license - NVIDIA
See http://www.tux.org/lkml/#export-tainted for information about tainted modules
/lib/modules/2.4.23/kernel/drivers/net/nvnet.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.23/kernel/drivers/net/nvnet.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.23/kernel/drivers/net/nvnet.o failed

twice.
any suggestions?
i use gcc 3.3.3 , libtool 1.5.2, modutils 2.4.26, kernel 2.4.23.

---------edit
heh the solution was simple:
i forgot to activate the nic in the bios...

Hi all!
I'm new...
That's my problem: i've got a Gentoo with a 2.6.4rc1 kernel. The problem comes with the sound of my A7N8X-Deluxe: i can hear just 2 channels (the front ones) and no more. Using the Alsa drivers with OSS emulation and setting with Kde (3.2) the Alsa drivers, i hear scratches and pops. So, turning on the OSS in Kde, that disappear...
Can anyone help me with the 6 channels?
(...i'm trying to take a look at your guide, but there's no more on that web space... )
Thanx in advice.

Well, by now i solved using just one jack and let the subwoofer do everything... but if i would hear a real 5.1 surround? And what about a Eax emulation or something like that for 3d audio in games? In the way i solved by now, i can't adjust the volume for each channel, because there is just one jack (stereo) plugged in... but if i connect everyone, i just hear the 2 fronts (and no more!).
Can you help me?

Hi Kenjiro, thanx for the answer!
Well, i've checked my modprobe.conf (looking the configuration of that site) but it remains everything the same
I've got neither the possibility to hear sound from multiple application... for example, if xmms is playing, every sound event is blocked, until xmms unblock the device...

This seemed like the best place to put this...

I got the A7N8X basic motherboard ethernet working on Fedora Core using the 2.6.4 Linux kernel thus:

Downloaded linux-2.6.4 source, made sure that forcedeth module was was selected before compiling. Compiled and installed kernel and changed /etc/modprobe.conf alias to 'alias eth0 forcedeth' the a7n8x basic mobo's onboard ethernet works on Fedora Core 1 test. So far no hickups.

Question Guide to A7N8X Under Linux - Where is it!!

I am having similar problems to pretty much everyone else on this forum... This guide seems perfect and i would like to follow it before I screw up my kernel further...

The is one problem.. Where is the guide ????

The link: http://attila.stevens-tech.edu/~dkopko/a7n8x.txt seems to no longer exist.

Does anybody know if the guide is hosted elsewhere, or maybe email it to me ( soruop_nehpets@yahoo.com )

Many Thanks

Hi, I have a A7N8X-E Deluxe edition, i use alsa and intel8x0 in module, but i don't have multiple sound in the same time, i use dmix to fix it but this is not a good solution for me ... did you have any suggestion? A nforce-audio produced by NVIDIA can be builded for 2.6.X ??

Best Regards Yann
