Default Geforce AGP 4 MX 440 and Nvidia-8756

Hello everyone,

I've recently installed nvidia-8756 (the driver released on april 7th, 2006) and I noticed that it runs fine on normal applications, but whenever I run Enemy Territory and the character starts to move, I get flickering, corrupted images. Why is that happening? Is there any fix that's not moving back to the old driver?

Were you able to fix this? I think we are experiencing the same problems. Please see my post about this situation.

Unhappy Re: Geforce AGP 4 MX 440 and Nvidia-8756

Unfortunately I have issues up to this day, and the old drivers have a serious root exploit. What am I going to do?

If this problem reproduces in 1.0-9626, please generate and post an nvidia-bug-report.log.

Thanks,
Lonni

It reproduces exactly the same ever since nvidia-8756. There should be a few logs around the forum.

And guys, good news. I found out how to fix the flickering issue when going from one X session to another. I've enabled both framebuffer 16 colors and vesa. Dunno which solves the problem, since I've enabled both. Regarding ET and the exploit, it seems the only sane way right now is to install the legacy driver (or nvidia 81?? - what was the exact driver?) and have "RenderAccel" set to "false" (like this, on your X configuration file):

Option "RenderAccel" "false"

so you won't fall pray of the root exploit.

I really, REALLY hope nvidia gets around those issues. They've been tormenting us for a long, long time. Just search the forums and you'll see.

Mythrill,
If you want assistance with the issue you reported in this thread, please post the bug report that I requested.

Note that there is no need to install a legacy driver to avoid the root exploit vulnerability. Just disabling RenderAccel is sufficient (or upgrading to a 1.0-9xxx driver).

Thanks,
Lonni

No, there isn't. the legacy driver is actually to avoid the ET bug. But since it *will* be vulnerable to the root exploit vulerability, then you must set RenderAccel to false. Got it?

Ok, Lonni. Let's do this. I'm a bit tired of trying to figure out the problem, so I asked someone else to paste the logs. If nobody pastes the logs within a certain amount of time, then I will myself reinstall the beta drivers *again* and I will paste a log as you tell me to, ok?

You reported the problem, and you will need to provide a bug report if you'd like further assistance with this issue.

Thanks,
Lonni

*Sigh* ok, so tell me what I should do to paste your bug report. Do I need to enable any debug variable, or an option at install? And which log file do you want me to paste here?
