Another worthwhile experiment would be to throttle the AGP rate; please see http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/L...ppendix-f.html.

@nukem: the NVIDIA X driver has no AGPMode option, the only AGP related NVIDIA X driver option is NvAGP (please also see http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/L...ppendix-d.html).

Sorry it took so long to reply, busy week. Anyway I tried that and it worked! Funny though, I was able to set it to 4x AGP(which is what it was before edited the source and the max this mobo supports) and its stable. I still get the following in my dmesg but its only once when the OpenGL app starts

Code:
NVRM: Xid (0001:00): 29,  L2 -> L1
Im just wondering since what I changed was to varibles why cannt there be an option when loading the module to manually set the AGP rate?

Thanks!

nuke

Bad news, the problem is back. We have lowered the AGP rate now to 2x but noticed something while testing glxgears and xscreensaver(OpenGL screensavers). It seems that by running any OpenGL application the temperature of the graphics card spikes. After about 2 minutes of running glxgears the GPU temperature was 100C and climbing. We quickly turned glxgears off and saw the temperature lower again. Could this possibly be a heating problem? Is the fan dying? When I had this card(eVGA 5900 Ultra) the highest it would get was about 85C in a similar setup. Could someone please help us?

Thanks,

nuke

Yikes, 100șC... I say you do have a overheating problem?

How do you check temp. of GPU? I can't see anything on my new FX5500 card to tell that?

Nick

Hello
I had same problem with 2 of my Geforce 5700 and 6600 GT but on 2 different system one Via board and another nForce2 one , solution that worked for me was to disable "fast write" option in bios this worked excellent on the Via mobo with GF5700 . The other option was to disable AGP in the X config file.

Hi. I'm the person who is having all the problems with the graphics card (nukem's gf)...

Anyways, I have been looking at new graphics cards. I have an AGP slot. So I have looked at the XFX 6800 card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150157.
I feel that the XFX is the best deal so far. I have a budget of $200. anyone have any suggestions???

look at this thread. Since I made the solution I described in that thread, I have been running stable.
