This bug/"feature" still present:

- upon install, you select which file types to associate with WMP. You uncheck all. Once installed, you see in Options/File Types your association settings didn't really have an impact - WMP is still happily associating quite a lot of file types and you have to untick the checkboxes again.

Way to go MS. No.

How is the sound quality in comparison to WMP 10? Is it still way worse than Winamp and Itunes?

It was never way worse than WA. I don't even bother using itunes coz it's so bloated.

The sound quality is improved however, it is probably the same as WA now, which is good.

The interface is excellent.

There are a few quirks but more to do with my 3'rd party skinning than with the actual product itself.

Speed is a big thing and I prefer the way wmp arranges my music to WA. It's easier for me to use. I would love to use this with the official beta vista so I can get all the aero effects but c'est la vie.

It also synchs very well with my mp3 player so that is a huge plus.

I am happy

Btw, the taskbar tool on minimize is awesome. It's integrated and very smooth plus it has a lot of features. I am impressed with this release so far. Doesn't hurt that the wmp10 skins work fine with it

I always found WA to be nothing but hot air so to speak - nice skins but that was where it ended for me.

the simple answer to your question is no.

as for iTunes - FO!!

Hmm...

The playlist control and media library layout of wmp10 AND 11 are superior to WA.

WMP gets updates just like WA so its not really a "require service packs" thing.

They both load just as fast for me and they use the same resources, actually if you look at my attachment, WMP uses less memory than WA and I don't even have the playlist view on, just player.

Plug-in support is superior on WA and there is a little more media variety (i.e. streaming media) but the equalizer for WA is not that different than WMP's.

Your 100 items list better consist of some better items than this coz they are too easy to shoot down.

Btw, another thing in favor of WMP is the superior integration and usage with various devices i.e. my g-15 keyboard and my ati remote control. WMP is far more tightly integrated off the bat than WA and I am happy to see that using WMP11 doesn't break my control list or hot-keys that I programmed.

Some of those points are valid

service packs as in for windows "i had to install sp2 to install wmp11"

And as far as devices go how many remotes do you think support wa? people were making remotes for winamp far before they were selling commercial products. and I bet that ati remote of yours probably supports wa or can.

I dont hate wmp I use it for watching vids etc' but for audio I preffer winamp

I wanna do a little experiment, how many songs do you have? I want to load the same # as you into winamp and start playing I want to see what uses more resources (are you actually playing music in that screen shot? )

My wa playing music is much lower w/playist and shoutcast radio browser open

Do you have it in focus?

When not in focus, my mem usage is significantly less, wmp11 for example uses about 8k.

For the service pack portion, service pack contains some enhancements that wmp11 uses. C'est la vie.

The ati remote does support WA as does my keyboard, but the support and the integration within WA is not great. I press a key, wmp10 and 11 respond immediately and correctly. Not so for WA.

Currently I have about 1300 songs loaded into my playlist, plus movies.

ok, as I said I dont hate wmp but it feels to big clunky and shiny for my tastes. I was going to tell you to load 5k or so songs and see how much resources it uses up but.... Winamp IMO is much better at managing large amounts of music I have 20k+ songs and it takes about 15sec to load in wmp more than half an hour
