Default FC5-64-Dual 4500 Cards

Ok, so I have this new machine (dual AMD64 Opteron) with 2 quadro 4500 (SLI) cards.

I just installed FC5 (2.6.15-1.2054_FC5) with no issues.

I downloaded the latest nvidia driver (NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-8756-pkg2.run). When I go to install I get the following:

"Unable to find the kernel source tree for the currently running kernel. Blah, blah, blah..."

I tried the yum thing I have seen in the threads, no dice. I have seen a lot of fixes that might work, but which one? Seems like a lot of the fixes I see are a few months old and I want to make sure I do the right steps.

So...

1. do I have the right driver?
2. what install steps are necessary for my configuration? (update kernel?)

Please keep it simple, I am a novice at this stuff.

Thanks in advance!

Scott

Please see http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=68681 for Fedora Core 5 specific NVIDIA Linux graphics driver installation instructions.

I did that... and when I run the first yum command I get the following:

Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Setting up Install Process
Setting up repositories
core
Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: core
Error: Cannot find valid baseurl for repo: core

This might as well be German to me... any suggestions?

@flyingscott: you'd probably best ask about this particular problem on a Fedora Core related forum, you're more likely to get help with `yum` problems there; I haven't seen the error message you posted myself, and can only guess that your depository information is incorrect or outdated.

J. Clark:
Attached is a zip file my own FC5_64 /etc/yum* information... Unpack it into a temporary directory only (or at least first) and compare the yum.conf file and yum.repos.d/fedora-core.repo file with what you've got. Don't make any changes to your own /etc/yum* stuff without first backing it up. There is a lot of extra and livna-type repos in yum my confiiguration, I got it by browsing http://www.fedorafaq.org/. Theyv'e got a convenient yum download.

Zander:
Don't mean to hijack the thread, its just I've got a somewhat vaguely sorta similar video configuration of my own, and I'm curious as to how Mr. Team Lotus makes out...

Thanks!!!

flyingscott, the only way that I can reproduce the error you're getting from yum is if I have no internet connection. Is your system connected to the internet?

Thanks,
Lonni
