Default linux suse 10 freeze with the last driver

Hello,

unfortunately Ive found no solution:
with the default nv driver of linux I have no problem, but no 3D acceleration. With the nvidia driver the last one or an older one, my X session freeze after some time. I Guess it is only the X session because this machine is an internet gateway for the network, and the internet is still available for other computers in the network after the freeze.
I have an Asus a8v with an AMD64, geforce 4mx440, suse 10 32 bits mode.
I've tried to decrease the agp speed as Ive red somewhere in this forum with no result. I cant get a significant nvidia bug log as there is no way to get one between the freeze.
Ive seen as well something about disabling agpgart, but Im just a user not an administrator, so I don't know how to do. And truly speaking it would be so long to learn, and I dont know how to be sure it comes from this module...

I dispair

Any help should be sooo good

There seems to be a lot of these 'freeze' posts after the latest release of the driver.

I wonder.

littlesniper, the bug report doesn't need to be generated while X is running.

Thanks,

You're using the 1.0-7676 driver. If this problem reproduces with 1.0-8756, please generate and post a new bug report.

Thanks,
Lonni

here you are but as I told you it unfortunately does not make any difference. Tested in 1x, last driver (had to reinstall the whole system cos nvidia complained about kernel header which were not up to date like the kernel, howfull to find out for a beginner like me)

No improvement

I have a few questions:
0) Does booting with vga=normal instead of vga=0x314 have any impact?
1) Does booting with the noapic and/or acpi=off kernel parameters have any impact on this problem?
2) You have a rather uneven IRQ distribution. I see six devices all sharing IRQ 11, and 5 devices sharing IRQ 5. Have you checked in the BIOS to see if there's a way to better redistribute the IRQs?
3) It looks like you're running the 1014 BIOS, however 1017 is the latest released. Can you try updating the BIOS?

Thanks,
Lonni

I did that as lilo boot parameters. No improvement.

I did that in lilo as well. Don't know if its the right place. no improvement

There is only the reserved option for the different irqs , no possibility to manually fix irq to a slot. Ive put yes to the PnP Os, I dont know if it can help. Damn the asus bios is stupid or what ?

The last version which fix problems with AGP is 1013, and I was using this bios with Suse 9.3 and nvidia drivers with no problem. So I bet it wouldnt do a thing. Anyway I obeid to you command, but... no improvement.

There is a symptom that may help. Using the desktop I have this boring freeze forever, but if I have time to launch warcraftIII with wine here is what happen: warcraftIII freezes as well, but for like 10 or 20 seconds, then it succeed to take the control back. Each time warcraftIII freezes it succeed to get the hand again after a rather short moment. I dont have other games so I cant tell you for other ones.

back to nv driver in desparation for now
no warcraftIII, slow windows and tiny tv on screen
:'(

SuSE normally defaults to GRUB for a bootloaded. Are you using LILO or GRUB? You can add the options to the kernel line in lilo.conf. Do the options show up in "cat /proc/cmdline" output?
