Smile 2405FPW Feedback Requested

I noticed today that Dell is offering the 2405FPW for 22%. I checked around the internet for what people think of this monitor and it seems to be favorable overall. While my current 7800GS may not run newer games at the recommended resolution real well I do plan on a new PC at the end of the year. Apparently there are a lot of complaints about the newer 2407FP that is available in Japan and the HDCP support on that model is something I can live without - I have a Polaroid LCD in my living that supports that for my DVD needs.

A couple questions:

1. I understand there is a feature where you can apply the correct aspect ratio on it, for instance, 1920x1080 would use 1 to 1 pixel mapping with small black borders on the top and bottom. Does anyone know if this feature is available using the component input mode? I am thinking about hooking up my Xbox 360 to it.

2. The only complaints that I have read about this monitor from some people that concern me is in regarsds to input lag so I was hoping on some feedback on that also.

Thanks!

I'm on my second one, the first had a backlight problem and over all I'm very happy with it. I haven't used the component input as of yet, but input lag is very minor, unnoticable most of the time.

So far (i've had it about 3 weeks)
The good: Desktop space is awesome
Text is crisp and easily readable
color saturation is rich and vivid
aspect ratio works well thru nvcp, can't say for ati

The bad: Having a hard time with any shadows in games, when I have a good profile built for detail the shadows and darks look washed out.

That's mainly it, a little overbright out of the box, but between dells latest drivers and the 91.28's for nvidia's I'm pretty satisfied with this beasty. Hope this helps!

I never noticed the input lag and I had a revision A01.

However that sort of thing can be pretty difficult to notice unless you have a side by side comparison going. Some people swear they can see it in the mouse cursor and that it "feels" laggy but I have no idea what they are talking about. And I'm usually pretty picky about that stuff...

Mines coming next week I hope its perfect out of the box. They had them on sale here http://compudirect.com/ for $759 but I waited to long and the price went up a 100 bucks, they will also test it for $4.99. If the one from Dell has problems I will prolly send it back and wait for the price to go down at CompuDirect.

Not a one, the first one had 1 that fixed itself, and if there are any on this one I sure can't find them.

I've heard 2407 is terrible, so I suggest you the 2405.

I really like my 2405. As I've said in other threads, probably the best hardware purchase I've made in a while. It did take me a while, probably a week, to get use to it though.

No dead pixels on mine and no backlighting issues. If I have an input lag problem, I don't know it.

Thanks for the input everyone. Is the 1:1 mapping available using the component input mode? I would prefer having black borders using my Xbox 360 to maintain a sharper image. I am trying to avoid using the VGA adapter due to the washed out colors that many people are reporting with the 360.

Ah I had that problem, it sucks that they don't support 16:10 monitors so you get a slightly stretched video from xbox360.

i purchased vga adapter and they have 16:10 options which allows game to run in true 16:9 with black bars but that didn't work for me. my monitor is samsung 244t.

i hope there's a fix somehow for that. good luck!
