On the main page but here's the link anyway: http://www.voodooextreme.com/hw/previews/cinefx/

What do you think of it?

I think between that and Anands, I'm pretty sure NV is set to whip up on everyone else. But the prices might be just a tad high at first.

Actually, I think NVIDIA will use their size to their advantage and "absorb" less profit with NV30.....I'm sure you'll see prices that are VERY competitive with R300 and the original starting price of the Ti4600...

What do I think? I think NV is doing whatever they can to dampen the inevitable PR blitz that will come with the R9700 reviews that we should see any day now. I think this is really pretty sad for a company to champion its card like this that (despite all the people that claimed to "know" differently) has just taped out initial silicon.

For those of you relentlessly insisting that an October/November shipping would occur, you can forget that. Huang wasn't lying to investors... there never were "10 cards" on silicon like some people claimed.

What else do I think? It better be one helluva fast card, because it will have to market for $500 for NV to make any profit on the chip sales.

What else? All those long shader instructions and flow control mean jack schitt for the next two year's games. All that matters is vertex processing, AF, and AA performance. If the NV30 covers these bases, then it will do OK (provided it shows up before January--unlikely--and isn't $500--doubtful).

That's what I think, and I'm dissapointed. I wanted two competitors this Christmas to drive prices down, and it just isn't going to happen.

How so? Right, so yields might well be low. What yields do you think ATi will be getting with it's 0.15micron MONSTER!!!??? Even on a well established process, a chip that physical size will have yield issues, surely?

I have a sneaking feeling that NV30 will launch at $399.

True but on price watch you can pre-order an 9700 for $365 so thats a start for the prices going in the right direction

Doubt it. Other NV launchs of their flag ship had a much higher cost ($500 for GF2 Ultra and GF3)

Right. But previously they didn't have very much credible competition. Now they do. That changes things.

Well then let me refresh your memory

At a $500 price point the GeForce2 Ultra most likely won't see the same popularity that even the $300 GeForce2 GTS and the $400 64MB GeForce2 GTS cards saw since their release.

The AA quality and performance of the GeForce3 is quite attractive, but at a $500 asking price it quickly loses its appeal as does the charm of high frame rates at very high resolutions.
Of course he is quoting MSRP. Which is just one base line. So how do you compare that to the 9700? Do you use its MSRP of $400 or the current pre-order from price watch at $365 for the 9700?

Tough call eh?

Very good point. It may...and it may not. Beside you can expect to find the 9700 much cheaper on-line by the time the NV30 is out... Like I have shown above its already pre-selling for $365

I stated that poorly...let me try again....

Did anyone see any of those cards for sale at $500? I know that I never did......

I remember seeing the GF4 TI4600 at Best Buy when it first came out and saw the $399 price tag...

I suppose we could all complain about MSRP's....though the only price that matters to me is the one retailers charge when I go to actually buy it...
