The memory usage reported in the Task manager is not a good indication. When you switch from the game to the task manager, the OS frees up resources and reduces the memory allocated to the apps in background.

A better figure may be deduced looking at the Commit Charge which is an indication of the total memory used (phisical and virtual) by Windows. Open the Task manager BEFORE starting the game, then play for a couple of levels and switch back to desktop. Look at the "peak" value which is the maximum amount of memory used by Windows since the Task manager was opened. 800-1000 MB is the norm for HL2. That figure includes also the memory used by the OS and any other resident process.

Actually I had my system set to run with dual monitors and I had task manager open on the second screen, with the game playing in the other. The game was using 300-500Mbs any time I looked.

I run the game with everything maxed at 1600x1200, 16xAF and HDR.

I finished the game and thought it was put together well, but it felt really short (shorter than Sin E1) and I was taking my time too. In comparison to Sin E1, HL2:E1 definately was better in the story aspect and makes me want to get HL2:E2 when it is released.

Yeah well if you zoom into the pixel level of any image you will see the aliasing antialiased pixels.

I bet in motion that image if PERFECTLY smooth. When I was testing in lost coast at 16x and 1600x1200 there was not a single bit of shimmer anywhere in the image on my 17". With 8x that was not the case.

Do you guys use SLi on HL2 or just disable it? I appoligize for the noob question, but this is my first go at SLi.
I just ran some benchmarks and SLIed 6800GTs performed worse in the CS:S Stress Test than a signle card. I ran the test three times on various resolutions and quality settings to make sure, and it was the same every time. Very, VERY odd.

Looks like there is a bug in the Nvidia drivers or in the Benchmark. Im getting the same FPS with SLi and Single Card at 1920x1200 /w 4xAATSS/16xAF. Im using the 91.28 drivers...

I know this doesn't affect SIN and HL2 since both of these play smooth as heck while the benchmark was choppy as ever.

I'm starting to think I'm better off just using one card in source based games. Can anyone else shed any light on this?

At this point I'm not so sure I'm going to even bother with SLi next go around.

1280x1024, 4xAA, 8xAF, max settings + SS Transparancy AA & GC AA

without SLi = 87fps
with SLi = 101fps

this margins grows as the resolution goes up but source is VERY cpu limited.

Point being SLi does work - at least for me.
