I like the game, plays smooth and looks nice, no problems that I've seen so far. You guys can have your HDR though (I call it the "overbright" setting). I have never been impressed with it and I'm still not. I turned it off, and it looks better that way to me. HDR is too artificial looking to me. To each his own I guess. Whatever floats your boat.

BTW, there is no "Ultra High" graphics mode as stated earlier. Well worth the $20.

Yeah, which is why the store copies should cost $20 and the Steam version should be $10.

Pointless unless you want the disc in hand so you don't have to wait for downlaods and decyption when a relaod is needed... Pointless if you don't want your box collection on the shelf looking like your book collection.

In any case they still have overheard from publishing both to stores and online.

That could be, though I don't know how much its costs to have that much bandwidth available. If it were me I would charge $15 for the content alone, not counting server overhead. Perhaps $20 is justified.

Either way, for the end customer itself, which is ultimately what is most important, having something you download for $20 vs something you buy physically at a store for the same price, doesn't quite make sense, at least IMO. Maybe others don't think that..

IMO, both methods have major drawbacks.

The downloaded version costs the same amount, yet you don't get anything physically.. IMO, that means you pay the same for less. The only plus is perhaps the extra convenience of not leaving your house.

The physical version still needs to be authenticated with Steam in the end, you can't simply install and play it on your own, which IMO, is the reason why you have a physical copy in the first place. Only plus is less to download. (although I hate to be downloading future updates in that case)

Man, this game is freaking sweet

The beginning is AMAZING. And the animations and everything they did with Alex and Dog so far are just phenomenal. I cant say I've ever seen people or anything else act this realistic in a game before. Except for the odd "blank stare" moments, Alyx seems almost lifelike. Im really impressed.

I really like how they pretty much did away with the standard shooter aproach so far as well. I've barely shot anything at all and I've had a blast. Using the gravity gun and helping Alyx (by pointing with the flashlight) is a refreshing break from the constant shooting in other games. And the puzzles are cool too.

Awesome expansion so far. I played for about 2 hours and Im working my way through the parking garage area. Im having some problems with my system at the moment though so Im taking a break.

Whatever the nasty slow downs are that I've been getting in other games, they are still around and its really irritating. I was getting like 15-20fps in some places in Episode 1 and that just didnt seem right at all. Most of the time I get over 60. I did a bit of testing and it seems like the slow downs only "kick in" when I spin my view around and then try to focus on a certain area. Itl run dog slow for a few seconds, then itl be fine.

Anyone have any idea what would cause this? Im almost positive that this is what I've been getting in BF2 and Half-Life 2 mods as well.

Im doing some general cleaning right now, but I plan on trying new video drivers if this doesnt do it.

A few screens.

Plays pretty smooth at 1680x1050 at 4xAA and 8xAF, all effects on and HDR and water reflect all.

No stuttering so far.
