Very similar problems for me, and the suggested workarounds of changing to 265x256 detail area or 16bit textures don't help either. Very frustrating that the linux laptop with bog-standard Intel integrated graphics that I use at work can run Google Earth just fine while my home PC with a lovely big monitor attached (NVidia 6150) has been unusable for Google Earth for months.

Putting some pressure:

1. It is a bug
2. NVidia knows how to fix it
3. What is holding up a bug-fix release?

Well this question can be answered fairly easy: Am bug-fix release does not fit into nvidias driver-release policy. Every 6 months they release a feature-update and some weeks later a bug-fix release. If you're between the 6 months ... than you simply had no luck.

This has discussion quite often ... and I really think this release schedule is stupid and ugly - however as it seems they don't plan to change it.

Well this is disappointing... Google Earth is still broken with the new 8774 drivers. Or at least that's the case with my GeForce Go 7300.

This bug will be fixed in the first 1.0-9xxx series driver.

Thanks,

Damn, that's too bad. We thought you meant the NEXT driver release. Our bad, I guess. :-\

So, what...Another 6 months or so until we can use googleearth, then?

I tested my GeForce 6150 with the new 8774 driver, and it is still broken.

It turn out to be more than one NEXT release :-(

8774 sounded "next" to me.

God, I hope not. I grudgingly accept the fact I have to use a binary blob, but waiting months for a bugfix is... (stalks off to take a few deep, relaxing breaths)

Maybe NVIDIA are being bribed by our collective employers to keep this bug in the driver so we don't waste our time on silly things?

No. The next driver planned was 9xxx.
There was so many angry posts about lack of XOrg 7.1 support so they just released unplanned, yet another 8xxx release to stop this and to not be worse than ATI which won the race to be first XOrg 7.1 supporter . Nvidia can only blame itself for this. There was so much time for making this support.

Exactly the way I feel. In a short moment where I set my principles (and fears of BLOBS) aside I bought a nvidia (integrated) GPU, because nvidia seemed to provide the best experience to linux users.

Next time I'll just buy an Intel motherboard, maybe I'll get less FPS, but at least I'm not totally relying on a company that doesn't do what only they can do; make decent drivers providing decent features.
