Default Nvsound: Unable to open the mixer

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone can help me out with this. I've been searching high and low for an answer to configuring the nvsound module on kernel 2.6.16-rc9 (Gentoo). I've found multiple threads that all seem to have lead to a recommendation to using ALSA drivers, or to people simply giving up before finding an answer. I'm not considering the ALSA drivers as a suitable alternative at the moment (unless there is no other option) due to the fact that this machine is meant to become a HTPC, and, from what I've read, ALSA does not supprt SPDIF or 5.1+ channel audio (among other things). I have found some threads which conclude with the issues being resolved, but never includes a "how it was done...".

So, I'm wondering if anyone would care to lend a hand with this one

I have successfully compiled the 8762 video drivers and those are all working perfectly so far. I have also successfully compiled the nvsound module after applying a patch that was released to address the kernel sources error.

Now that the nvsound module is compiled and loaded, I attempt to load 'nvmixer' through KDE and a flood of "Nvsound: Unable to open the mixer" errors appear in the console window. I have configured my kernel with only OSS support enabled, no ALSA and no intel8x0 drivers were included in the configuration.

I will include output from lsmod, lspci and anything else I can think of that might help with troubleshooting

Has anyone been able to find a 2.6 kernel version that does work properly with the nvsound (nForce) version 0310 drivers?
