Unhappy Help for Dual Monitor!!!

Hi everybody,
I'll start saying that I'm a newbie, also about linux (Now I've dapper !).
I've got an Ndivia gforce fx 6600 agp with two monitors connected: a crt and an lcd (this one on dvi). I'd like to configure them respectively at 1600x1200 and 1280x1024.
I've installed synaptic and I've abilitated nvidia-glx. Unfortunatly I'm not able to do that; I've looked almost everywhere but I couldn't find the right way to solve my problem.. At the moment I'm in twin view with a refresh at 50hz and a res at 2880x1200.
Please, please help me !! I've passed the last few days crashing my head on it and now it's starting really hurt ...
Thanks in advance.

P.S
By the way, my monitors are :

crt da 22'' liyama MA203D DT
lcd da 17'' Sony SDM-HX73

this is my xorg.conf

This thread might help:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=66141

You should also produce a nvidia-bug-report while running X with -logverbose 6 so we can see what settings your computer detected.

I'm assuming you just want to get your refresh rate higher than 50Hz? If so, the auto-detected settings could be wrong, and you could need to override some of them. (But we need to see the nvidia-bug-report to help more)

When I use to use a 19" CRT and 17" LCD in twinview, I liked to use both monitors at 1280x1024 so the DPI would be about the same. (And because the smaller screen would always be panning on me). I used the 19" CRT at 85Hz and the 17" LCD at 60Hz, so my eyes wouldn't hurt and the monitors wouldn't die trying to use too high of a rate.

Were you running X with -logverbose 6? Your X log file seems brief.

Anyway, can you explain what problems you are having? Everything looks to be working fine.

You are running at the expected 2880x1200. (Your LCD will pan up and down). nvidia-settings says your CRT is running at 85Hz and the LCD is running at 60Hz, which is optimal.

Why do you say you're only at 50Hz?

Did you install the driver from nvida's site after you uninstalled the ubuntu version?

Try adapting/using parts of my conf file to your setup. To find the BusID number you need to put into the device sections for the "two" video cards use lspci -X and you will see output similar to this for your card.

Code:
PCI:1:0:0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV35 [GeForce FX 5900XT]
That is the number to use in both sections and makesure that you have the Load "xtrap" in the modules section this is what allows the mouse to move between the screens.

Code:
# /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

As far as I know it does not work that way, any apps you want in the window your working with need to be started in that window.
