Default World of Warcraft 1.11 not working with NVIDIA cards?

Anyone got World of Warcraft through wine 0.9.16 working with a NVIDIA card? It worked fine till the patch came out recently. It's been reported that it runs fine on ati chips, but nvidia users seem to get a similar error message (see http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?versionId=5109):

wine WoW.exe -opengl
....
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 143 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 5 (X_GLXMakeCurrent)
Serial number of failed request: 483
Current serial number in output stream: 483

It seems like one GLX call breaks the whole game. is there a way to get it working?

My specs are:
- Newest nvidia drivers (working fine)
- Ubuntu Dapper
- Geforce 6800GT 256MB
- Athlon XP 2700+
- nForce2 board

What color depth are you running in? I've seen similar errors if I try to run a game that's requesting a 24bit/32bit surface and I'm running in 16.

Im running in 24 Bit. The graphic depth in WoW is set to 24 bit, too. it worked fine with that setting until the patch came out.

Can you guys post your config.wtf and xorg.conf files?

Cheers

try just launching the game (wow.exe) instead of the launcher

I launch it by wine
Code:
wine WoW.exe -opengl
(without the launcher). The error appears when i run my Xorg in 16Bits too. I tried several modifications of Config.wtf and the Xorg config file. Nothing seems to help.

i have no idea if thats the problem, but after i read the thread, i remembered this change:

Optimization code known as "M2Faster" is now enabled by default. M2Faster can improve performance in crowded scenes when "Vertex Animation Shaders" is turned on. This function can be turned off by setting M2Faster to "0" in the config.wtg.

* Reduces the unique number of vertex shader permutations that we will choose to use in rendering
* Sorts the drawing of items in the scene a little differently to reduce the number of times we re-program the vertex shader hardware.

maybe, if you change M2Faster to 0 (disable), wow works again

- I tried the ubuntu package from the wine repository as well as compiling it from source. Nothing changes.
- Setting M2Faster to "0" doen't work either
Thanks for your response!
