Default Nvidia Nforce Audio hardware not recognized

Hello Everybody,

Went back from Fedora Core 5 (where sound worked fine) to FC 4, and everything works exept sound.

I have read in several threads that kernel 2.6.17-1.2139_FC4 should support the nforce out of the box, so I wonder a little why my athlon still gives me a deaf ear.

here are my system specs:

Greetings. I have encountered this same problem in Gentoo with the 2.6.16 kernel, and through my communications with NVidia support, I have found that the 2.6.16 kernels and later support this chipset in the kernel. When you compile your kernel, you need to compile ALSA into the kernel, as well as support for your chipset. Then, recompile and you'll have sound. (I found this after many days of trying to get the nvaudio to load with modprobe.)

Ok thanks for the information,

I will have to find some info on how to do this, because I have never compiled a kernel before. Everything used to work "out of the box" and all I had to do was update my installations.

Would you per chance know of a good Fedora Core how-to page, please let me know.

thx

Follow this guide, and when you get to the "configure kernel" section, use make menuconfig.

http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mjm-kernel-fc4.html

When configuring the kernel with menuconfig, make sure to follow my guide on compiling ALSA into the kernel:

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=72907

After adding ALSA to your kernel and rebooting, you should have sound. Good luck!
