Default Question about a program called Hamachi

My friend wants me to install this program so we can set up a VPN for sharing files and playing games, but I'm having some second thoughts about security. I'm not extremely well versed in networking and security, that's why I worry a bit.

So, has anyone else here used this, and is there any indication that it's fairly secure? Am I just being unreasonably paranoid? It's just that it seemed incredibly simple to install and set up. That got me thinking too much.

VPNs are highly secured if you do it all correctly, many businesses still use them.
