Ubuntu ships with 1.0-7174. The removal of the 1.0-7174 nvidia driver that ships with Ubuntu has been discussed in many other threads, I'd suggest searching this forum for the correct solution for that problem, or consulting an Ubuntu support group/forum.

Thanks,
Lonni

Dapper ships with both 87.62 and 71.74. The 71.74 one is refered to as nvidia-glx-legacy and used for supporting tnt2 and the like, since it was dropped in the later releases. The legacy and non-legacy conflict with eachother btw.

This warning is an X configuration problem:
(ww)NVIDIA: No matching device section for instance (busID PCI:0:10:3)

I'd need to see a bug report that includes that warning to comment further.

Did you try using the NVReg_Mobile nvidia kernel module parameter, as documented in the NVIDIA README?

Thanks,
Lonni

The "noapic" GRUB option is also worth a try.

i have test the "noapic" option.

And i had unstall nvidia driver because i whan have a clean system with no trace of old nvidia driver:

Code:
sudo apt-get --purge remove nvidia-glx nvidia-settings nvidia-kernel-common
sudo rm /etc/init.d/nvidia-*
sudo apt-get --purge remove linux-restricted-modules-2.6.15-26-k7
And reinstall the nvidia-glx driver.

After i add options nvidia NVref_Mobile=3 in i /etc/modprobe.d/options file

i restart gdm daemon, and it's crash i have this error:

Code:
Error: API mismatch: the NVIDIA kernel module has ths version 1.0-7174 but
this x module has the version 1.0.8762. Please make sure that the kernel module and all nvidia driver component have the same version

(EE) NVIDIA(0) failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module! please ensure that there is a supported NVIDIA GPU in this system, and that the NVIDIA device files have been created properly.

Screen found, but none have a usable configuration.

no screen found.
Also i had never installed a 7174 driver version in my laptop.

I don't understand where he found the driver.

so i remove options nvidia NVref_Mobile=3 in i /etc/modprobe.d/options file

restart gdm.

i have alway this error in /var/log/Xorg.log:

Code:
(II) Module synaptics: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
        compiled for 4.3.99.902, module version = 1.0.0
        Module class: X.Org XInput Driver
ABI class: X.Org XInput driver, version 0.5
(II) NVIDIA X Driver 1.0-8762 Mon May 15 13:09:21 PDT 2006
(II) NVIDIA Unified Driver for all Supported NVIDIA GPUs
(II) Primary Device is: PCI 02:00:0
(WW) NVIDIA: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:0:10:3) found
(--) Assigning device section with no busID to primary device
(--) Chipset NVIDIA GPU found
(II) Loading sub module "fb"
My bios is updated, version is 406.
If i start a 3D application, if my USB mouse was plugged the system crash.
Now i don't know what i can do. :-( :-(.

thank you for help.

The problem is probably in the restricted modules package. The thing is that it will try and detect which kernel module to use for your card and in your case it detects it to be an old card and therefore use the legacy module (kernel module, not xorg module). What you should try is uninstall the restricted driver and use module assistant to install the nvidia kernel module.
"module-assistant auto-install nvidia-kernel"
Should do the trick (after you have removed and purged the restricted modules package)

If you're experiencing problems with the installation of Debian/Ubuntu packages, you'll need to contact their maintainer for assistance. Alternatively, you could install the official NVIDIA driver package from www.nvidia.com.

Thanks,
Lonni

Remember to do a "depmod -aq" afterwards (as root).
