mandriva 2006: nvidia.ko is missing!

my system is mandriva 2006 with kernel 2.6.12-22.
i've tried to install the nvidia-driver (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8762-pkg1 and also NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7182-pkg1), first i had problems to find my kernel sources (updated kernel in another directory). now i have specified the path by the "--kernel-source-path" command, and now it works so far.
then the log file has many entries of configuring kernel, and finally, there occurs following error:

Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'.  This happens most
       frequently when this kernel module was built against the wrong or
       improperly configured kernel sources, with a version of gcc that differs
       from the one used to build the target kernel, or if a driver such as
       rivafb/nvidiafb is present and prevents the NVIDIA kernel module from
       obtaining ownership of the NVIDIA graphics device(s).

the log file says furthermore:

Kernel module load error: insmod: error inserting './usr/src/nv/nvidia.ko':
   -1 Invalid module format

where can i get this file?

The file is generated by the install, which obviously went wrong.
Maybe it is time to cleanup the machine and make sure that you have only the correct kernel sources, and at the correct location?

i looked up my whole system. there is no nvidia.ko anywhere!

The installation failed, which why the module was never installed. You might want to search for other posts on this forum for others reporting this same problem on Mandriva 2006, for the appropriate solution.

@Smobbl_Bobbl: please also attach the /var/log/nvidia-installer.log file.

I am running the same setup with a fresh install and getting the same error. I have tried to install 7667 - 8762 and all give the same error. If I find anything, I will let you know.
