Default Max resolution dosent fit on my monitor.

Hi there, after a sucessfull install of the nvidia drivers with the instructions in the sticky, the max resolution dosent fit in my monitor, that is Im only able to see a part of the screen at 1024x768

Here a pick like you see the screenshoot is 1024x768, but Im only able to see the rectangle marked with red lines and the borders... if I put the mouse on a side it scroll to the part that was outside of my monitor.

Image 1 http://img102.imageshack.us/img102/9...ktopveo0ey.png

Some guy say me that I can return "nv" driver instead of nvidia...

Here 2 screenshoots of the resolutions (with nv driver in xorg.conf)...

Image 2 http://img102.imageshack.us/img102/1402/desktop1um6.png
and
Image 3 http://img124.imageshack.us/img124/5022/desktop2cn9.png

Here 1 screenshoot of the resolutions (with nvidia driver in xorg.conf)

Image 4 http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/7471/desktop3cx0.png

By the way, the rates of selection in that place...

with nvidia 70Hz and 85Hz
with nv 60Hz and 85Hz

nvidia dosent work at 1024x768 and 85Hz the monitor is black and the led is blinking.
nv work at 1024x768 and 60Hz work OK it fit on the monitor, also all the other resolutions work OK.

Wich files you need to know the content????

Hi, Im using Debian (was a net install of Sarge) I have a 2.6.15-1-k7 kernel now.
My monitor is a Syncmaster 550v.

Here is the xorg.conf, in fact is the same I use for "nv" driver I only comment one of them... but work correctly for "nv" showing the max resolution fit correctly on the monitor.

Code:
# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig

this kind of sounds like what my system was doing where it initializes the lower resolutions first, *dont ask me why*, can you get the full resolution doing a control + alt + - or control + alt + (+)
Just to add the +/- needs to be the numlock +/-.

Default Re: Max resolution dosent fit on my monitor.

I attach the actual Xorg.0.log
I also have one Xorg.1.log (dont know what is it).

Like you see the first resolutin that is set is 1024x768, in the logon screen (before enter user and password) but in that moment the screen is black and the led of the monitor is blinking, after that, I hit CTRL+"+"/"-" and I get the 800x600, changing some times the resolution in the screen options make the monitor freeze... like tiles of no sense combination of color, then I need press CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE for restart the server and again the black screen and the switch with "+"/"-".

Also I have read the http://wiki.x.org/wiki/FAQVideoModes in fact this question http://wiki.x.org/wiki/FAQVideoModes...9316d507427cb3 that describe exactly what I have a resolution that dosent fit correctly in the monitor... by the way, xranr give exactly the same solution a black screen with blinking monitor led... also a "session of the command"... with my command line notes marked with BOLD.

~$ xrandr

Rotations possible - normal

~$ xrandr -s 800x600
~$ oklook
bash: oklook: command not found
Even the Hz (85 Hz) is only for the lower resolutions... I dont remember that this monitor (synmaster 550v) support that refresh... also like you see in the Xorg.0.log say something about max pixel rate about 150xHz... but I remember from specifications that is much lesss than that.

By the way.... Im thinking now, I will run xrand with "nv" driver and see the output .

I there, I have commented "driver nvidia" and uncommented "Driver nv" and hit CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE... here is the output of xrandr (also for that I only put now the links to the images in the first post).
Also I attach the Xorg.0.log of this session.

See that the first size is 800x600, because in the anterior run (with nvidia driver) is the resolution that fit on screen (remember that I use CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE).

See that now I remember to hit xrandr in resolution of 1024x768, because I see the prompt. not like the black window... also, when Im on nvidia driver, and hit xrandr -s 1024x768 and get the black window, if I change resolution with "+" I get the resolution of 1024x768 but it dosent fit in the monitor.

nv work... and give more available resolutions that work including the refresh that is more like I remember, also the max pixel rate is more near to real in the Xorg.0.log file
Quote:
(II) NV(0): Ranges: V min: 50 V max: 120 Hz, H min: 30 H max: 61 kHz, PixClock max 80 MHz
I guess the max pixel clock (of the manual) is more like that than 150xHz iirc when running nvidia driver.

nvidia dosent work other than 800x600.

Please start X with the following command:
startx -- -logverbose 6

and then generate and post an nvidia-bug-report.log.

Thanks,

According to the EDID in your CRT, the maximum image size is 280x210, you are specifying:
DisplaySize 267 200

Have you tried commenting out the DisplaySize parameter in your xorg.conf?

Thanks,
Lonni

Yes, in fact, before (inmediately after install) I don't have it, a guy say me that I must search the manual for it... and that is why I put that size.

Also now I have commented it, and restarted wtih CTRl+ALT+BACKSPACE and the same happend, edited again xorg.conf for DisplaySize 280 210 and restarted again and it do the same.

I think the problem is about the rates...

Quote:
~$ xrandr
SZ: Pixels Physical Refresh
0 1024 x 768 ( 283mm x 212mm ) 75
*1 800 x 600 ( 283mm x 212mm ) *85
2 640 x 480 ( 283mm x 212mm ) 85
Current rotation - normal
Current reflection - none
Rotations possible - normal
Reflections possible - none
It should return what with "nv" says... because with nv work OK, and there is no 85 of refresh for this monitor in 1024x768.

Tought reading the nvidia-bug-report.log.zip say that the refresh at 1024x768 at 85 is rejected because it pass over the max rate.... dont know why is in the list of xrandr ...
