My system is freezing when playing OpenGL games in linux. I've tried america's army and quake 2. The video output to the monitor shuts off as well. There are no messages in the logs, and the computer is completely locked (I did a grep for nvidia and NVRM and there are no messages at the time of the crash). The keyboard capslock no longer works, and I cannot contact the machine through the network.
I also tried the magic sysreq keys to sync, unmount and reboot, but they do not function either. This seems to happen when there are a lot of things on the screen at once. I thought it may be my power supply, which is 350 W, so I took 2 out of my 3 hard drives off line but experienced the same problem. I also upgraded the bios on my motherboard, which is an Albatron KX-400 8X to the latest 1.5 version. I have also upgraded my linux kernel from 2.6.12 to to 2.6.17, and tried disabling AGP but this has not fixed the problem. My cpu is an AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2100+, and I have 1 gig of memory. I also tried to reseat the graphics card. The graphics card is an e-GeForce 7800 GS. I do not have Windows so I am unable to try it in that OS. I'm thinking of taking it back, since I can't think of anything else to do. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks. |

Check you ram with memtest86. Check the molex power supply is firmly plugged in. Does the 2D nv driver work?
