Problem with Geforce 6100

Hi, I've got an ubuntu dapper (6.06) with kernel version 2.6.15-25-386 and the NVIDIA drivers 8762, my motherboard is an BIOSTAR 6100-M7

My problem is that I can't get 3d acceleration, I have to run in vesa mode, with the performance decrease that becomes with it.

I've read of people who have this card running, but I don't know how.

Can somebody help me?

The bug report that you posted is against 1.0-7174, which doesn't support the GPU you're using. If this problem reproduces with 1.0-8762, please provide a bug report.

ok, I remove the packag nvidia-kernel-common (it tried to remove linux-restricted-modules, linux-386 and linux-image, I managed to reinstall all of them but I can't with linux-386)

Although that problem with this packet, the system is working fine.

in glxgears I only get 800~900fps, is this normal? I have 15,000 on my 6800 at home

I know it is not an benchmark tool, but it can be used for reference in some cases :P

I think now I have the driver working well, but I have very,very poor performance un 3d, veery poor

Yes, about 900FPS in glxgears is expected for a C51 GPU.

Ok, I don't like this performance, I think it will be otpimized with newwer drivers, but if this leaves the cpu do his work, it's ok

I'm not clear why you think the performance isn't optimized of the CPU is doing the work. C51 is not considered to be a 'performance' GPU, its a desktop (integrated) GPU.

Perhaps you should switch to the nv driver to compare performance, and you should see a very significant difference.

I get about 900fps in glxgears on my 6100. Works pretty well for the games I run though.

I'm with the same motherboard + CPU Sempron 2500+@1453MHz. I get ~1186 fps with 2.6.17 + 81.78, but 2.6.17 + 87.62 -> ~950 fps. 87.62 is better driver. it's 2D is faster that older drivers, but 3D is slow.
