Default Getting error messages when installing Windows XP Pro!

I'm reformatting an older computer for a backup. After I format NTFS and start installing Windows xp Pro I get the following error messages.

Windows couldn't load the installer DiskDrive.
Windows couldn't load the installer for CDROM
Windows couldn't load the installer for Battery

Even when I ignore the error messages and continue with the install, once windows has installed it will load the boot screen and then reboot over and over asking me which mode I want to choose. Even if I choose a mode it just reboots and prompts me with the same questions. What's going on? and how do I correct this problem?

Older computer? How old and what are the specs?

Does it meet Windows XP system requirements?

It's an HP Pavilion a362n

Hardware Specs:

Intel Pentium 4 3.00GHz with Hyper Thearding
160GB 7200 RPM Ultra DMA Hard Drive-IDE
512MB 2700 DDR SDRAM
ATI Radeon 9200 AGP 8X 128MB DDR Memory

I tryed reinstalling Windows xp Pro again and it keeps doing the same thing.
Windows will start to load and then it prompts me with safemode, safemode with Network, etc. etc. none of which resolve the problem even if I so choose to select any of them. What's next?

Check to make sure jumper setting on the hard disk(s) is correct.

If it is, try resetting the cmos and boot from a Linux (knoppix or redhat) cd/dvd to run memtest86. The setup may not be 100% stable.

Also could be caused by incorrect IRQ assignment in the BIOS. Try moving around pci cards to different slots if you have any.

Okay, Will try doing that stuff you provided me with. Thank you!
Also on the front of the case it says designed for Windows XP Home/Pro.
The funny thing is. It ran perfectly last week. Now it's having install problems.
Okay, thanks for the information. Please advise if you know of anything else.

Good luck with it!

Are you using a retail copy of XP or recovery disc? Keep in mind recovery disc from another PC would probably not work for that one.

Was a defective disc. Got a new one RMA and now Windows installed perfectly.
