Why do so many threads get locked around here?

I don't understand why so many threads around here are locked for no apparent reason. I've never seen anything like it before.

Like somebody was publicly thanking Mike, and was immediatly locked and he was told to use PM. Or a conversation is going on about some photos, and its determined they are not what the OP thought they were, so it gets locked. Or somebody asks a question and as soon as the question is answered the thread is locked.

Why is this?

Because the thread has served its purpose and to save the eventual derailing and flaming that has been happening more and more lately, the mods decide to preemptively stop the thread from continuing.

What's the big deal?

And go to some other forums to see what they're like...this is by far the most lax forum I've ever posted at.

MikeC doesn't really run this website. In reality, I do.

I tell people to lock all these threads because well.... I'm an asshole of sorts.

ya this thread is very leanyant on the thread locking compared to my other ones, theres several threads locked every few hours on the linuxforum i post on, which is a lot sense theres only about 60 active posters and usualy less than 10 on at a time

I think because most of them dont stick with the rules.

Well I don't do a whole lot of forums, and the main one I'm used to doesn't lock hardly anything, so to see so many locks here just surprises me. Guess I'm spoiled by the freedom we have there.

We do have a tendency to over moderate. I am working with the mod.'s to get them to ease up. This thread does belong in the Feedback Forum though. Thanks for your feedback SillyEagle .

I had a friend who had his own forum and he didn't just lock or move threads. He deleted the whole thing if it upset him. Of course it didn't take long before everyone left, including me. I even copped a ban once. For teasing him because he couldn't tell the difference between Kiss and Van Halen

Anyway nVNews is the only forum for me now... Well except for SilentPCReview and maybe 3DGameMan. He makes me LOL
