Specifically what is not working? What kind of drivers are you seeking?

Thanx for the quick reply.

It's not detecting neither Nic, HDs nor audio card. I'm using Ubuntu 6.06 LTS amd 64. Since all things belong to the chipset (HDs not, but the SATA controler yes) I think that the problem is that the chipset is not supported.

I'm kind of new to linux, so I might be getting something wrong...

The chipset is supported quite good under linux

The sata controllers are based on the ahci standard, and supported by the
ahci driver

The PATA controllers are supported by the alim15x3 kernel module

The Nic is supported by the uli526x driver. (this one has some quirks, but works)

The audio conforms to intel HDA audio standard and is supported by the snd_intel_hda module

It sounds like the problem is in ubuntu. But it might be a problem that the PCI
IDs have not yet been added to the respective driver.

you should post the output of "lspci" and "lspci -n"

Hi, I just managed to install linux on this motherboard. This motherboard require a pretty new kernel, mainly for decent ahci support(ncq and other goodies)I recommend 2.6.18-rc2, or 2.6.17 with Tejun Heo's libata patch applied, you can download his patch bundle from here
http://home-tj.org/wiki/index.php/Libata-tj-stable
the most important option is CONFIG_SCSI_SATA_AHCI and CONFIG_ULI526X, make sure they are build in.
I download RIP linux from
http://www.tux.org/pub/people/kent-r...looplinux/rip/
, it ships with 2.6.17, unfortunately it miss the Uli ethernet driver, and the ahci support is not complete, but it has the advantage that we can build a newer linux kernel and simply load it from the grub menu. For example I build a new kernel on my old desktop, copy it to C:\kernel-new, then reboot use riplinux cd, when the grub appear, press "e" to edit the first boot option as follows
-------------
root (cd)
kernel (hd0,0)/kernel-new ... <---boot with our own kernel
....
------------
then continue to boot. Until then I can happily repartion my drive and use debootstrap to install a debian base system.
Ah, one more word, the nvidia river doesn't work with 2.6.18 rc kernel, so if you want to use nvidia driver the only option is 2.6.17.4 + Tejun Heo's libata patch.

Just managed to get all things recognized (at least by the LiveCD, still didn't finish to install ubuntu, but there shouldn't be any problem). After trying lots of things, the solution came by accident. Updating the mother BIOS to version 1.1 (avaiable in MSI site) got everything working

And without building any kernel, which I still don't have a clue of how to do it

Thanks to everyone

Hello,I have the same motherboard with yours. And I almost success to install debian in my PC.Everything works fine except media players.I have tried totem, mplayer, xine, both can't play movies.

I think the problem is because my video card, which is ATI readon x1300,and I installed with the lastest driver, with version number 8.27.10.

If you have any experience or idea, will be appreciated.

NOTE: before install the ati driver, totem can play movie, although the speed is very slow.
