Default Geforce 7300 GS PCI-E, bad performance

Hi, i recently bought myself a Geforce 7300 GS PCI-E, but the problem
is this card performs as good as my my old computer did 2 years ago,
glxgears gives me 1600fps, no problem with the driver as far as i can see, i'm using x86_64-1.0-8762.
Are there any known problems with this setup? The card performs 3-4x better under windows.

Glxgears is not a benchmark... You need to check the performance in real programs or games.

thunderbird: well but glxgears is also not afailable for windows so the suer must have done some testing using other programs.

fldc, in addition to the previous comments & suggestions, I'd be curious what kind of performance you were hoping to achieve? Posting a bug report would also be useful.

Thanks,
Lonni

More program were used to get to this conclusion yes
I pinned down the problem to my motherboard, seems to be some
problems using it together with the onboard ATI Xpress 200 (which can't be disabled in bios). Performing as should with other tested boards.

Is there anyway to get this card working correctly with my Asus P5RD1-VM mobo and the onboard video (Ati Xpress 200) still enabled?
Here's my nvidia-bug-report for figuring out what the problem is. Isn't /proc/mtrr set up all wrong, if so how do i set it upp right?

Can you disable the Composite Extension and try again?

Hi. Newbie to the forum. Looks like a place to find the help I need. Last entry by fidc indicated performance no better than their 2-yr-old pc. I share your sentiment. I just bought the 7300GS and thought I would be significantly besting my older FX 5500, but it's actually running significantly slower on an Intel Pentium D at 3.4G than the 5500 was on a P4 2.8G machine. All current drivers from NVidia loaded & running. Very disappointed to say the least. Anyone have a fix or do I return the card and try a different board of manufacturer? This one is evga. Gears was running at ~2740fps on the other machine while it's only running at ~1630 on this new machine. Something's not right.

same problem here, though.. no other onboard graphicscard. and i am not alone:

http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t...ht-7300gs.html

Asus EN7300GS in Asus Mobo A8N-E
glxgears ~1600FPS. my FX5200LE ~5000FPS

OTOH.. everything is fine in windows.

i already did, sorry that i didnt mention that here. it was mentioned in the gentoo thread.
the results are the same.
UT2004 is 2-3 times faster in windows using the 7300GS. yes, on the same machine (!). its a DualBoot.
using the 5200LE card, UT2004 is almost equally fast, no matter in windows or linux.

i am aware that glxgears is not a benchmark, but it is a fair tool to "compair" 2 cards.

so i draw the conclusion the problem is with the linux drivers?
this is what cat /proc/driver/nvidia/registry spits out:
