Hi everyone,
I'm using a Biostar TForce 6100 board, and the ethernet is not working. I know this is a common problem, and I've seen that people have fixed it by installing the 1.0-0310 Nvidia drivers. When I tried to run the installer with # sh NFORCE-Linux-x86-1.0-0310-pkg1.run it says that it doesn't know the KERNEL SOURCE PATH and the KERNEL OUTPUT PATH. I managed to install the rpm for the kernel 2.6.16-1.2122_FC5.i686.src.rpm and fixed the source path, but I don't know the correct output path. I'm using Fedora Core 5, and I'm new to Linux. Can anyone please tell me what the output path for the drivers should be? Thanks a million! |

The forcedeth driver that ships with FC5 works fine in this motherboard.

I couldn't get it to work. I saw that in another thread, someone had recommended using the command
# modprobe forcedeth But it doesn't fix it for me. I'm using DHCP. I've updated my Linux kernel to the latest version. Please let me know if there's any output that might be useful for diagnosing my problem. |

You haven't described what the problem is. What specifically isn't working?

When FC5 starts up, it hangs at
Starting networking Determining IP information for eth0... failed [ FAILED ] Afterwards, I go into the System -> Administration -> Network, and here's what I see that the status is Inactive. If I try to hit the Activate button, it hangs on Determining IP information for eth0 and fails also. The tabs in the Network Configuration window are - Devices: shows one entry. eth0 which is inactive - Hardware: shows one entry. nVidia corporation MCP51 - IPsec: blank - DNS: Hostname is localhost.localdomain; everything else blank - Hosts: blank If I try to use Firefox, nothing loads. If I try to use YUM, it doesn't work. Thank you very much for helping me out on this! I've been searching threads for two days now and couldn't figure it out. Please let me know what other information you need and I will gladly provide it. |

What do you have in /etc/modprobe.conf and /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 ?
Also, are you running any other OS besides FC5 on this system? |

If you unplug the system for 5 minutes, does the problem persist?
What are you using for a dhcp server? Thanks, Lonni |

Lonni you are a genius!
And all I had to do was turn it off for 5 min. I had restarted many times and it didn't do anything. THANK YOU! |

The correct file is "kernel-devel-2.6.16-1.2122_FC5.rpm" and not the src.rpm so you might want to use that instead. The src rpm will install everything into /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES

I know. I installed both. I just had to have the source as well since my original attempt was to compile the nvidia drivers, which told me that I had to have the kernel source.
It shows my linux version as 2.6.16-1.2122 at boot so I believe that I've got it right. Thanks for looking out for me though. |
