Default Re: no nvidia on realtime kernel CCRMA

i'm sorry to be adding some things again. But when i reboot 2.6.16-1.2080.16.rrt.rhfc5.ccrmasmp i see while i boot :
checking for nvidia kernel FAILED
and when i'm in i have to reconfigure /etc/X11/xorg.conf a bit. A new 'load gli' has been made and the driver has become 'nv'. The twinview and its settings are still intact.
Manually i # load gli and change 'nv' to 'nvidia'. Then Control+Alt+Backspace and Nvidia and Twinview is kicking in.
Do you have an idea how to resolve this?

Does this also happen when you boot the standard FC5 kernel?

Please add a full nvidia-bug-report.log doing the following sequence:

1. Add "3" as boot paramater (grub)
2. Boot the system (with the rt kernel)
3. On the text console, login as root
4. Type "X"
5. If/After X aborts with an error message, type
nvidia-bug-report.sh
6. compress the resulting nvidia-bug-report.log and
post it.

regards

Bernhard

no, nvidia (and twinview) works fine with the standard FC5 kernels.

i followed your instructions and booted into the ccrmasmp-kernel without X running. I typed 'X' and a black screen with the Xcursor appeared. Then nothing. I went back to the loginscreen (without X) and typed 'startx'. A new message appeared of a logfile being saved in /var/log/Xorg-0.log.
That is the one i'm sending to you, hoping it is the one you are asking for.
greetings.

For some strange reason, your system switches back to the
2D nv driver ... i have no idea what could cause that problem.
Please provide a full nvidia-bug-report.log.

Hi Bernard,

i guess this is what you're asking for, i'm not sure. The date is rather old.

When i try to 'glxgears' i get the crash and get kicked out of X. It must have something to do with the glx? But of course i'm only guessing.

Is there more info that you're needing?
goodbye.

No, this is the shell script that i'd like you to execute :-)

Just login as root and type "nvidia-bug-report.sh". This will generate
a file named "nvidia-bug-report.log" in the same directory from
where you started the shell script.

Compress this file, type: "zip nvidia-bug-report.log.zip nvidia-bug-report.log"
and attach the zip archive to your next post (like you attached the
shell script).

during bootup. There a few things that might have an effect:

1. disable SELinux (kernel boot option "selinux=0").
2. remove the boot options "rhgb quite".

(either in /boot/grub/menu.lst or on the grub console while booting).

no, no effect.
i can see during the booting:
unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko' FAILED
enable nvidia glx settings FAILED

or something like that.

Hello Bernhard,

due to the problems with glx-drivers and other problems together with the CCRMA realtime-edge-kernel, i switched over to the 2.6.16-1.2080.16.rdt.rhfc5.ccrmasmp.
(The other kernel was 2.6.16-1.2080.16.rrt.rhfc5.ccrmasmp)

Here the nvidia-installer worked beautifully and i got a lot of positive messages from the installer after having build the nvidia.ko, messages that i didn't see with the edge-realtime-kernel.

This kernel works good enough for me, i can use the glxdriver and get programs running with a little more latency that the edge-one but the advantages are greater.
Although the building was ok, there are still some problems: at booting this kernel can't seem to find nvidia.ko so every time i have to reconfigure my xorg.conf back to the nvidiadriver and Control+Alt+Backspace before nvidia kicks in.
Would you consider to give this problem another try to get solved? What kind of information can i sent you to make the problem more clearly?

any way thanks for your help, bye
