Default laptop with a 6100 Go card in it..

I have a gateway MX3414 ccc. I installed OpenSuse which worked great with the 'nv' driver. I installed nvidia's drivers using the NVIDIA-version.run script, it returned successfull. However when I start X (after changing 'nv' to 'nvidia' in xorg.conf) using /usr/X11R6/bin/X all I get is black screen. For you entertainment I have attached a copy of my /var/log/nvidia-installer.log file and a log from starting X with the nvidia drivers.

Any help would be appreciated.

Please start X with the following command:
startx -- -logverbose 5

and then generate and attach an nvidia-bug-report.log.

Thanks,
Lonni

Thumbs down Re: laptop with a 6100 Go card in it..

OK, I have the same problem with a Gateway MX3410. I tried to find out wether the GeForce Go 6100 (or 6100 Go, whatever you want to call it) is supported by the nvidia unified driver and nobody knows anything. I read the supported cards list and 6100 Go is NOT on the list. I installed the latest driver but the result is the same, i.e. black screen, and when I switch to the tty1 console where boot messages are the screen is garbled, there is a flickering on some lines of the screen, until I reboot the computer completely.
I think the whole problem boils down to a simple answer (Yes/No) to a simple question: IS THE 6100 GO SUPPORTED BY THE LATEST NVIDIA LINUX GRAPHICS DRIVER?

If netllama would kindly come across this post, and would answer too, I would be sooooooooooo grateful!

yes, the 6100 is supported of course - if you would browse other threads (you do not even need to use the search) you would find the answer.

Yes, the GeForce Go 6100 is supported in 1.0-8774. Unfortunately, there's a known bug which prevents anything from being displayed in many (if not all) notebooks which use this GPU. This bug will be fixed in the next driver release.

Thanks,
Lonni

Thanks Lonni for answering and clearing this up for me.

You see, the reason I asked whether the 6100 Go is supported or not is because I read the supported chips list and this particular one (GeForce Go 6100) is not on the list, so I thought maybe nVidia does not support this particular chip in Linux. There is though "GeForce 6100" on that list, but I was not sure if it's the same with 6100 Go or not.

And, to Linuxhippy, yes, I know 6100 is supported but that was not my question, If you read my question again (above) you will see I asked about GEFORCE GO 6100.
