The time period seems kind of random. Usually within 20 minutes of starting a game. Has happened in Tux Racer, UFO: AI, PlaneShift, and mupen. In WinXP I could run Oblivion for hours without any issues.
I have tried RenderAccel False and noapic (acpi=off disables my mouse) and those haven't helped. Also have the latest BIOS. I have an eVGA 7600GT KO. I've attached the bug report and some lines from syslog from the last freeze. Any ideas? |

If you're using the NVIDIA driver, you need to contact NVIDIA. It is completely impossible for anyone else to support their driver.

elanthis, posting to nvnews *is* contacting NVIDIA. Additionally, the benefit to posting on nvnews is so that others can read about common problems, and post potential solutions. Please don't discourage others from using nvnews.
Hershey, I see the following in your bug report: (WW) NVIDIA(0): WAIT (2, 6, 0x8000, 0x00006f20, 0x0000700c, 0) (WW) NVIDIA(0): WAIT (0, 6, 0x0000, 0x0000700c, 0x0000700c, 0) (WW) NVIDIA(0): WAIT (0, 6, 0x8000, 0x0000ea38, 0x0000ea38, 0) (WW) NVIDIA(0): WAIT (2, 6, 0x8000, 0x000096c4, 0x000097b0, 0) (WW) NVIDIA(0): WAIT (0, 6, 0x0000, 0x000097b0, 0x000097b0, 0) (WW) NVIDIA(0): WAIT (2, 6, 0x8000, 0x00000a1c, 0x00000b08, 0) (WW) NVIDIA(0): WAIT (0, 6, 0x0000, 0x00000b08, 0x00000b08, 0) (WW) NVIDIA(0): WAIT (2, 6, 0x8000, 0x000078a0, 0x0000c45c, 0) (WW) NVIDIA(0): WAIT (0, 6, 0x0000, 0x0000c45c, 0x0000c45c, 0) WAIT warnings are caused when the driver is waiting for some event to complete. In many cases they are due to a kernel or BIOS bug. Does this problem persist with a more recent (2.6.17.x) kernel? There is also a beta BIOS (1017) available if you're feeling adventurous. Thanks, Lonni |

I tried 2.6.17.9 and still have the issue. I'm not too keen on using a beta BIOS. Are there any BIOS setting worth playing with?

Sorry, I'm not really familiar with the BIOS you're using.

Well I decided to see if another flavor of Linux would cause the same lockups and OpenSUSE also locks up. So then I decide to try FreeBSD and it locks up as well.
Now I'm back running stable on WinXP64. It's a shame too, I was really liking Ubuntu. |

Try an older BIOS. Newer != always better.

Well it was working fine in WinXP64 before I went to Linux (ran it only for a couple days). Now it's locking up in Windows too. Time to take the card back and try for another one.

Ever check to make sure the card isn't overheating?
