Hello! I have a geforce 6800 card that's running under Mandriva 2006. I have installed the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8756-pkg1.run drivers, and my xorg.conf looks like this (shrinked version):
Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "layout1" Screen "screen1" 0 0 InputDevice "Keyboard1" "CoreKeyboard" InputDevice "Mouse1" "CorePointer" EndSection Section "Files" # Multiple FontPath entries are allowed (they are concatenated together) # By default, Mandrake 6.0 and later now use a font server independent of # the X server to render fonts. FontPath "unix/:-1" EndSection Section "Module" Load "dbe" # Double-Buffering Extension Load "v4l" # Video for Linux Load "extmod" Load "type1" Load "freetype" Load "glx" # 3D layer EndSection Section "Monitor" # TV fullscreen mode or DVD fullscreen output. # 768x576 @ 79 Hz, 50 kHz hsync Identifier "monitor1" VendorName "Generic" ModelName "1280x1024 @ 60 Hz" HorizSync 31.5 - 64.3 VertRefresh 50.0 - 70.0 ModeLine "768x576" 50.0 768 832 846 1000 576 590 595 630 ModeLine "768x576" 63.1 768 800 960 1024 576 578 590 616 EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "device1" Driver "nvidia" VendorName "nVidia Corp." BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce 6800 (generic)" Option "RenderAccel" "true" EndSection My problem is that when I play games, my screen tends to go "staccato" on me (looks like the picture freezes for a quarter of a second, and does this every five seconds or so.) It's incredibly annoying, and keeps me from playing great games under Linux. I have tried to install newer drivers from the website, but I'm not being able to display them coz my screenresolution goes mad every time (640*480 is my only option then, no matter what I do in xorg.conf).. Any help will be highly appreciated! PS: I've tried loads of tips from alt.os.mandriva newsgroup, but sorry to say; none helped me solve this problem |

First, read this carefully http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678
Also check for any hdd activities, i don't think that "staccato" effect is caused by nvidia drivers. if you want higher resolutions add them to the section Screen: Modes 800x600 etc. also comment out string "Virtual" in this section.
