Default Linux 2.6.18 rc4 - preventing lockup with X - pci=routeirq

This is just a note for anyone who has a lockup problem when starting X with the nvidia driver. (system hangs with a blank screen at the point where X starts up).

Try adding making sure that your kernel has ACPI and set the kernel boot option pci=routeirq in grub.conf.

This took me a long time to find out.

I have an nforce 3 board (as far as I can remember) with a GeForce 6100.

My next problem is not an nVidia one - why does my mouse appear to go dead in Enemy Territory? (still works fine in a text console with gpm running).

This can be related to X, make sure you are not using evdev driver for mouse, it causes lot of problems with ET. Typing in console /vid_restart after you have connected to some server solves the crazy mouse effect - at least for me
