I'll need to see an nvidia-bug-report.log.

Thanks,

According to this bug report, X is running at 1024x768. I'm not clear on the problem you're reporting.

The current problem is that although the nvidia driver is now running, but when I type "glxinfo | grep direct" in the terminal , the screen resets and I get the nvidia logo and then the ubuntu login screen. The same thing happens when I try to change the screensaver in the preferences section. Hence the bug report. If its not the driver, do you have any suggestions?

That's happening because you're not using the correct glx module:
(II) LoadModule: "glx"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so
(II) Module glx: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
compiled for 7.0.0, module version = 1.0.0
ABI class: X.Org Server Extension, version 0.2

You should reinstall the driver.
