Default X does not start avter NVIDIA driver upgrade

I'm rinning FC5. After I ran yum update I noted that there were also upgrade of the new NVIDIA drivers.

The problem is that after I restarted. I'm not able to use the GUI. The problem is some sort of missmatch between the client and the kernel module.

Can somebody please tell me an easy way to fix this? Why isn't his handled automatically by yum?

According to your bug report, you're using the vesa X driver.

OK. That didn't help me much.

I think the vesa driver was beeing used because X crashed after the upgrade, and Fedora tried to fix it.

I enabled nvidia again and made a new bug report (and attatched it)

But this doesn't change the fact that this line is in the first file also. I think this is the problem.

Right, if you're using the 1.0-8762 kernel module with the 1.0-8774 X driver, X will not start. You need to reinstall 1.0-8774 to fix this problem and/or remove 1.0-8762.

Thanks,
Lonni

OK
I need to reinstall the nvidia driver. How can I do that?

Is it possible to take back the previous driver which was working for me? In that case how do I do that?

Reinstalling the driver is the same as installing it fresh. The driver README documents all of this.

Thanks,

Edit as root /etc/initab the line that says runlevel 5 change to 3
This boots macine in console mode. CTRL + Backspace to kill x
Download new driver
as root
nvidia-installer --uninstall
then run the new installer
startx and your good to go.

or just try
nvidia-installer --update
